Hi
Just a quick question about DVD Region. What if I accidently purchased a DVD with a region which my DVD player cannot support. Are there anyway that I can make a backup of that dvd using my computer with some kinda software that after backing up the dvd I can play it on my home DVD player. Please let me know if there's a software to do it.
Thanks,
Jason

Use DVDDecrypter is you have a dual layer(DVD-9) writer and DVDShrink if not. They will auto. remove the region code.
You can also check the DVD Player forum for a hack for your player. -
You can easily use tools like DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter to make a back-up of your disc that is region free, copy protection disabled, and will play on your standalone DVD player.
Two problems may arise...
Will the DVD drive in your computer allow a disc from another region to be played and/ or copied? Many drives are locked into a specific region or limit the amount of region changes and lock it into the last change. There is software available where you can bypass this, though.
The other problem you might run into is the ability of your DVD player to properly display the disc to your television standard (PAL or NTSC). Meaning... can it convert a PAL DVD to NTSC and vice versa if needed? -
wells, isn't the software...like DVD Region, and or a lot of other DVD region free software outthere that can decode all of the region. I know its can play on the computer and desktop but I'm not sure about make a backup copies of the disk ...wells, some more advice would be great...
thanks,

My first port of call would be to see if you can exchange your disc for the correct region one with whoever you bought it from.
Failing that, the next step is to find out if your standalone DVD Player will play the region you desire, or if there are any hacks you put on it so that it will. Check the DVD Players section to your left, and see what regions it plays. Then try the DVD Hacks section and see if there are any simple "button push" procedures you can do to make it region free.
The next angle would be to make a backup, which should be region free by default using most software. As someone above me mentioned, the key will be if your DVD drive in your computer can read it. By default, all DVD drives permit 5 region changes AFAIK. However there are firmware hacks and software that can negate this. Take a look at http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php and see if your ROM or burner have a regionfree firmware available.
As mentioned above, when you use DVDDecrypter or DVDShrink, they should be configured to remove any region protection by default. There are a couple of guides for this software here, or there are heaps of guides in the Guides section to your left.If in doubt, Google it.
