Hi!
I have recently encounter two titles wich i couldn't back up. I did as always, watching the dvd for a few seconds, then i use dvdbackup, osex or mactheripper.
But the ripping stops when processing a certain vobfile. The last thing i tried was a normal file copy in the finder, i got an error when copying that same vobfile.
Is this a new copy protection that our ripping tools can't handle or what?
The dvd's i was ripping was "Finding Nemo" and a Swedish title called "******* Amal".
Does this forum have any information on this?

However, every time I have had a un-rippable DVD it has always been a dodgy disk."Whenever I need to "get away,'' I just get away in my mind. I've personally backed up Finding Nemo (though it was the NTSC region 1 release) with MTR, and it worked fine. I think the problem is damaged discs, if the Finder got an error on that VOB. Either they are physically damaged, or just improperly mastered (it happens). I'd say to try to locate other copies of those DVDs.

That diry dsk thing would be why i had trouble with a few snow board dvds was told that it couldnt do every second file so i scraped the whole thing. But most of the time its sweet. Please note that i always clean the dvds before they make my drive but they were old and slightly damaged. But they did play fine just not backable.

DVDBackup always errored out on Nemo, even if it was prefectly clean and no scratches. MTR went straight through it, as did YadeX.
What's the big difference between the two groups? Has something been updated on the protection of DVDs since the last DVDBackup update? -
DVDBackup isn't the most compatible, and since it's no longer being developed, it probably never will be. It just isn't perfectly reliable at cracking the encryption, for some reason. It's strange, as it relies on the drive to decrypt, and the drive is obviously able to play those DVDs, so I couldn't guess what the problem could be. I'm just thankful to have solutions that do work.

I scanned this article from the magazine "Computer shopper."

It has a new protection. -
DVDBackup cracks the encryption code by reading the file ( if it cant get the code from the disk )
If the file its reading is to small , it cant get enough info to crack the code.
Hence it fails on small vobs.
Its that simple.
