  1. What DVD writer should I buy?
(Sorry if this is the millionth time the question's being asked. )

I was going to go for a Sony.
I was prepared to pay a bit extra.
But... then I read that the drives are VERY choosy about the media they'll write to.

I'm kinda confused which one to buy now.

Is there some kind of poll voting on the best DVD writer?

In the end I've kinda decided on going for the ND-2510A or ND-2500 because it's received more than a 100 good reviews on eBuyer.

ANY help/recommendations would be really appreciated.

    Thanks.

You could also read through the reviews here. Click on "DVD Writers" under "Lists" along the left edge of the screen.

The reviews are generally made by video-savvy types and may be more meaningful than the "How do I set the clock" types at e-bay.

Get the Optorite burner. They are so cheap, you can't go wrong.

    $51 8x DVD-+RW retail box at NewEgg.com.

  4. you could get the liteon 12x model, and upgrade it to the 16x model with dual layer as simple as a firmware upgrade through codeguy's website.
I have the 812s and upgraded it to the dual layer 832s and it's great.

I have the 12X Optorite and love it. It's not at all media sensitive and is a very fast ripper (I have seen rip speeds up to 15X). I bought it here http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=27-182-025&depa=0 for $66 and it comes with a beige and black bezel plus Nero and PowerDVD software, a real bargain.

  8. The Plextor is re-branded and over priced IMO. You can't go wrong with the Pioneer.

Plextor drives are NOT RE-BRANDED they manufacture their own drives. Dunno where you got that information! Unlike Sony that has Liteon making their drives.

At least everyone agrees that NewEgg is the place to shop.

  12. If there is a Bestbuy store near by, you may take a look of it. I saw
some Pioneer A07 there for clearance during the weekend. It is $90
before a $40 rebate. I know A08 is of very good quality. I am not
sure about A07 quality. I already have two DVD writers, so I passed
    the deal.

Pioneer 107 drive is a good drive just as Plextor's 708A but hey that's just my opinion!
