20 years?? Hah! It's probably only going to be a couple of years before terabyte harddrives become cost effective. And then we'll be complaining that they aren't fast enough to keep up with the blu-ray or hd-dvd recorders!!

You can bet on that.... I don't think you'll be able to compare it to the leaps and bounds you have over the last ten years though.

By then they'll be tucked away in the basement or a closet like a hot water heater.

    Hello,

How about the cellphones??? I still have an old clunker from the early 90s. Its the size of my HAND! I haven't bought a new one yet because I just use it for emergencies.

I know but when is enough enough? We're going to have to put a lead suit on if they get any faster

I think that resources will eventually be our limiting factor. As of now, they keep developing new material that allows us to improve speed and quality (specifically conductors). Theoretically, that will have to top out at some point. From there, we'll have to be more efficient in order to improve.

Once all that happens, aliens will come and give us new material to work with, and it'll be like starting from scratch.

I think thats where nanotechnology comes in. I think I've heard there developing cellular processors. That would certainly shrink things down!

LOL, I picture you as Zach from Saved by the Bell. He was so cool back then, with that giant cell phone.

You're probably shelling out so much radiation on that thing, you're giving your neighbors brain tumors.

    Hello,

I said I only use it in EMERGENCIES! That means I only put out a few RADS of lethal radiation!

    tgpo:
You had to hit the fast forward button and wait

The other day I was in a friends "classic" camero. He was like, "Check it out, the radio still works." As he moved the dial back and forth to try and tune in a station.

I said, "Uhhh, that's uhhh great dude."

Damn, that's not even very long ago. Now people have DVD players in their cars.

anyone remember the box with the dial that you would have hooked up to your t.v. antenna to move it so you could get a signal?

In 20 years there will probably be all t.v. on demand.

  26. I remember 20 years ago I used to make an ass of myself at videohelp.com. Those were the days. Remember that time Baldrick switched servers from ThePlanet.com to TheToilet.com and we didn't have bluerayhelp.com for almost 20 microseconds?

Damnit if the world didn't nearly come to an end then.

Everything goes in cycles. Within two to three years DL will become affordable to the masses and the thought of ever having to shrink a DVD is going to provide us with hours of laughter, kinda like the thought of even bothering with converting DVD to VCD now, or all the arguments we used to have over + or -. I think 20 years down the track, we'll look back at today and shake our heads, much like we are doing now.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  28. Let's see what I was doing 20 years ago...

Working my way through Apple ProDOS. Marveling at the magical 'notch' that allowed a single-sided floppy disk to be recorded on both sides. Pickin' up chicks who thought my Apple IIc was the dope-shit.

Oh yeah, and that ******* annoyance called middle school.

This would be right and some of my computers won't be here in 2 years time as worn out and obsolete.

Since WinXP SP 2 is installed in one PC, Windows 2000 is getting too old now.

I still got that ancient IBM Win98 PC as so slow to use much.

In fact I predict that I will have a much larger, more powerful PC with a laptop to match.

Just one each is enough for all the work, entertainment and the Internet.

I expect my Internet data rate speed improve dramatically by then too and no more dialup.
I am a computer and movie addict
