I currently have these speakers. I am now looking at this sound card. Can anyone tell me what would be the advantages (if any) of getting this sound card? If anyone wants to know, I have an Asus P4P800 Mother Board. Oh, also for anyone who wants to know, I use my computer to play games, watch movies, listen to music and video editing. So, pretty much I am trying to make my computer "My all-in-one station".

    Thanks...

Personally I would just get the card, the ZS's are all the same. Most of what is on that control panel will come with a good set of speakers anyway besides the 1394. It's just redundant hardware, How many volume controls do you need?

On how well it performs I can tell you it comes with a demo disc. On my 5.1 system there's a THX demo at one point that makes everyone jump out of the seat. There's also a DVD audio demo that leaves CD audio sounding like your listening too a MP3 recorded at 94kbps.

  4. Seems pretty nice to me. 108db signal to noise ratio is impressive. How would this connect to your Amp/speaker setup? Personally, I'd recommend something that connected source to amp via digital coax or fiber-optice digital (I couldn't tell from reading the specs how you intended to hook it all up... plus I've been drinking and !#$%ing & can't comprehend too well now...).

These are the inputs on the control center for the speakers:

    (1) digital optical for DVD or CD player, PlayStation 2, Xbox*, or PC sound card (requires optical cable, sold separately)
    (1) digital coaxial for DVD or CD player, or PC sound card (requires coaxial cable, sold separately)
    (1) 6-channel direct (3 stereo-mini connectors) for 2-, 4-, or 6-channel PC sound cards
    (1) Analog stereo-mini for portable CD, MP3, or MiniDisc® player

Personally, i would go for the sound card. I myself am a proud owner of a Audigy 2 Platinum soundcard and it sounds awesome. The Audigy 2 ZS is a slight upgrade from the Audigy 2 soundcard, with only 2 major improvements being a 7.1 sound card and having a dts decoder.

The ZS is capable to decoding the latest formats of Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES (matrix and discrete) though you will need at least 6.1 speaker to take advantage of this. However, you be gald to hear that the DVD AUDIO sounds awesome, after hearing dvd audio, you wont feel like going back to cd audio again. I have a Asus motherboard too (model A7V8X-X) and it works fine with this brand of motherboard.

I also use my pc for all in one solution (watching movies, play games, listen to music etc) which i why i opted fro this sound card.

Slick Rick, you have some high end speakers so the sound card should go nicely with your speakers. I personally own a set of Creative 6.1 Megaworks 650D speakers and coupled with the Audigy 2, it is really really LOUD!!!

Though your speakers already have a dolby/dts decoder, the added benefit you will get is dvd audio.

Thanks for the comments waheed, I ordered the sound card yesterday. I'm sure they will make my speakers sound all the better. I bet those speakers of yours sound great with that sound card.

They certainly do, they are some great speakers. But your Logitechs do have a deeper bass than my speakers. the downside with my speakers is that they are PC only speakers, they do not have any decoders etc so i cant use them with my dvd player, PS2 etc.. unless i have a seperate external decoder, and have a wired remote (i prefer wireless)

Yours speakers being a 188 Watts rms SUBWOOFER must be very loud. mine is only 150 watt rms sub.

I have the same Asus P4P800 Board as you and even through the on-board sound seems better than most , nothing I have heard sounds better than a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 with a decent set of surround speakers . I have to say the P4P800 is an excellent board as well.

I agree with you whomacuddy, the Asus board is great but I just wanted something better to go with my new speakers.

I can't even turn the sub up more than 25%. It starts vibrating the walls too much and I live in an apartment. Can't have neighbors complaining on me about the loud noise.

Oh yea!! Those speakers are awsome. Alot of speaker comparisons come down to those 2 being the best.

This is from my Sept./Oct. issue of PC Upgrade:

Well, I recieved my sound card today. Amazing!!! Listening to DVD Audio through my Logitech Z-680 speakers is incredible. Haven't played around with many of the other features yet, got to get some sleep before I head to work tonight.
