  2. I like my 4120B, I did have the first one go bad on the 17th burn though. I have been burning steady on the replacement, no problems. If you need RAM there aren't too many choices, that's why I went with the LG.

  3. I'm also considering buying that drive, you liking it? And can anyone clear up something for me- in the DVD writer database thing here, it says this drive has booktype/bitsetting capabilities, but the offsite reviews I've read on it seem to contradict that. Is that something LG recently implemented with new firmware, or is the bt/bs feature incorrectly applied to the drive's profile here?

  4. I definitely like the drive, very quiet on DVDs, makes noise on CDs though. I haven't had any problems besides every once in awhile it spits the disc back out when first inserted and has to be reclosed. I haven't used bitsetting, but I thought I read that it doesn't support that, not sure though. I'm pretty sure it doesn't do booktype. I updated to A104 firmware before ever using the drive. If there is some way to look that stuff up I can do it if you tell me how, I'm pretty new to all this.

Liteon SHOW-1213S 12X DVD Dual Rewriter.
PCWorld listed Best Buy. It retails for $99.99. I got it from NewEgg.com for $79.00 and free shipping last month. I think you can run this unit upside down and you won't get any errors. It is great and includes latest Nero Suite. I think Newegg.com is sold out but the below url has it for $79.00 with Free 2-day shipping.

Bitsetting is supported for DVD+R and DVD+R DL from official firmware version A104.

Don't trust PCWorld. The Lite-On is a much worse drive than the LG. Besides support for DVD+R DL and DVD-RAM the LG has also much better writing quality.

  7. I like LG I've had this drive for about 2 weeks now and like it I had an older LG that I really liked and I bought a BenQ 16 X writer and I had to take it back it wouldn't read or write alot of DVD media !!

I find Maxells and Memorex Media works great with these drives.

I only use these type becuase they work and the price is good !

  8. I've been burning discs nonstop in the LG, 135 or so in a few days, not one coaster or problem besides having to reclose the tray once in awhile. I've been using Prodisc S03s and S04s.

  9. I have installed several LG 4120B and no problems with any of them! I like them, burns every format, it's very quiet during operation. We'll see on the long run, but right now they're working great.

I currently have a NEC 2500, and have been very, very happy. Has been a bit slow reading once or twice, but otherwise a stellar performance at a very reasonable price.

At this time, I would love to get a NEC 3500, the 16x -/+R and 4x DL. A friend has one, and is very happy. Plus, the CD-R performance is top notch, burning and ripping CDs up to 48x. And, again, very good price - not the cheapest, but not by much.

  11. If you don't want to fool around or worry about bitsettings or the like just get a Pioneer drive and burn on DVD-R media. Very reliable combo.

  12. I have a question for all you Pioneer people. If these drives are supposed to be so great how come I read more poeple having problems with them in these threads than anything else? Are there just that many more of them out there or are they not what they are made up to be?
