  1. My little four month old lab Pluto has been ill for the past day or so, shitting and puking. Took him to the vet and they have kept him in and say thay may need to operate

It is amazing how attached to the little thing I am and he has only been here a few months.

Sorry to here that Russ, hope he turns out ok.

Let me tell you a little story about a dog to cheer you up:

His name is Murph' he's a boxer and belongs to a bloke i work with.
This dog is an absolute effing nutter but he's had a stroke and walks around with his head tilted right over to the left (very funny to see but at the same time you feel sorry for the dog)
Now one afternoon Murph starts acting strange all googly eyed to start with then he's lying down but can't keep still, rolling around and acting very strange indeed. By the morning he is well and truly buggered so my mate takes him to the vets, where he is examined and finally x-rayed and is operated on immediately.
It turns out his intestines are blocked - they are blocked with apples.
you see my mate has an apple tree in his garden, we are not talking tiny crab apples here, they are fully blumed big fuckers and this dog which is now stroke ridden had decided to eat the apples that had fallen to the ground, not really a big thing you might think - dogs eat apples and all kinds of strange things but this twat decided he wasn't going to bother chewing and swallowed them whole resulting with blocked intestines and a £1100 Vets bill
Every morning now my mate has to get up and go pickup all the fallen apples before murph goes out.
Hope that cheered you up Russ and I hope the dogs ok cos i know you do get attached to them.

Our dog Thor scared us a number of years ago. Thor loved chasing blue-tailed lizards around the yard. It was his favorite activity, and it kept him in shape.

One day Thor came to the door and my wife let him in. Thor was walking half sideways and spinning around in circles. His eyes were rolled up in his head and he immediately started vomiting all over. We rushed him to the vet and he was diagnosed with head trauma.

Apparently Thor had been chasing a lizard, and in his zeal didn't see the concrete block wall and crashed head-first into it at a dead run. Now Thor was a large, very strong dog, having akita, black lab and pit bull in his bloodline, but he was a gentle family pet and was the happiest animal we had ever seen. Nevertheless, the concrete wall won that round, and poor Thor nearly killed himself running into it.

Thor recovered and led a nearly normal life after that, with only the rare twitch from his head injury. It never changed him though.

Thor died of old age last January. God we miss him still

Our labrador was as thick as shit. he would stand under the dining table when you were eating, and if you said "Biscuit!" your dinner would leap an inch off the table.

Still, we were all upset when he got himself hit by a car, and he was never as playful after that. haven't seen him for a while as he lives with my parents, miss having a pet around the place.

I'm sure he'll be fine Russ.

  10. We just got a call from the vet at 10pm !!, credit to them, however they charge a ******* fortune.

They checked his blood and that was fine and they checked something else and that is showing a problem in his liver but that is probably due to an infection. She says he will probably be alright.

Just got to wait and see.

That's good. Probably something that can be taken care of with a 5-day regimen of antibiotics or so

Well I tend to be more of a cat person....
Eat, sleep and shit... change a litter box and I'm done with it...

Dogs on the other hand need to be TAKEN out... possibly picked up after (depending on where you live), smell when wet....
    Care for more?

Anyway what could be more cute than this:

Hardcore, we REALLY do feel for you. All animals lovers know the anxiety the owner feels when their pet is ill. Heck, they wind their way around your heart and that's it. Your hooked. Please keep us up to date on poochy's progress.
Just in passing, that is one DAMN cute kitty shot

My apologies.... but my take was on a reply that promoted dogs as pets........ so I jumped on it...

Russ has my thoughts as any pet is important in one's life...
I thought I stated that in my earlier post and being such a companion is one of the great benefits of having (notice I did not say OWNING one) a pet...

    Again, my apologies...

    Makntraks,
Please don't take that as jumping down your throat. I just saw the thread turning into a "Post your Pets" thread, and I thought it would do a disservice to the somber note of Russ' thread. That's all. Nobody in particular was targeted by my threadjack comment Peace

No offense taken at all... I realize my error and have no problem owning up to it...
Again I understand pets and what they mean to us... and what they bring to our lives...

Good luck to you and the dog, Russ!

We had a golden retriever. Family illnesses I could handle, but if anything happenned to 'my little bro' I'd be really cut up. I'm getting misty just remembering him.

Anyway, he's probably gorged himself on some food he's found lying around - labs are vacuum cleaners on legs!
    Regards,

I know how you feel - my dog got quite ill a few months ago but recovered very quickly when given antibiotics. When they're young, they can bounce back from nearly anything.

  25. Pluto is back and in the place, rinsing it with the best of them.

If he was spoilt before he has not seen nothing yet, he currently has 32 toys and I have seen this **** off cuddly tiger in a local shop that I am going to buy for him tomorrow.

He is still very ill, he is on three different types of medication and has to have special food for the next five days.

The bill £500, and when I said what was wrong with him, "we don't know" was the response.

The only good thing out of this is that El Stinko is sleeping downstairs with him, so I have the whole bed to myself.

I am off know to have a shower, crack one out and watch an episode of Voyager.

    GOOD OLD PLUTO

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes, I will pass them onto Sir Pluto himself.

Hope he gets better real soon. I can't understand why are they prescribing medicinefor him if they don't know what they're treating.
    Hello.

  27. Perhaps it is to treat the symptoms - if a patient has a headache but you don't know what it causing it, surely they would prescribe ibuprofen or something to relieve the symptoms. Maybe that is it.

You're right though - why don't they know what's wrong and how can they know exactly how Pluto should be treated?

Anyway, congratulations to both Russ and Pluto!
