I have a 4.3 Gb DVD which I'd like to re-author, but add in my own extra audio track (note *add* not *replace*).

Since the DVD is a full 4.3 Gb, and since I don't want to re-encode any of the video, I will also need to strip a few of the extras...

I know stripping extras is easy, but I haven't been able to find a guide for adding an audio track while keeping the original menu.

is it a single PGC movie?, basically does that VTS only have one Title in it?

if it is then it is possible . If it's multiple PGC then it's a little harder

I'm not completely clear on your question, but I think the answer is yes.

The DVD has many titles (10 to be exact).
The Title which contains the Movie (VTS_10), contains *only* the movie. All the extras are in the other 9 titles...

Now, the part I can do:

I can use VobEdit to demux VTS_10 into elementary streams, and then use IFOEdit to remux these elementary streams with my new audio stream. Then I can take the output of IFOEdit, rename from VTS_01 to VTS_10, and then substitute back into the original DVD files, overwriting the original VTS_10. I assume that the original "VTS_10_0" files should be kept, so I will not overwrite them.

At this point, though, I don't know what to do next. I know that the VIDEO_TS files and the VTS_10_0 files will need to be updated now that VTS_10 is a different size and contains an additional audio stream.

Also, the DVD will be a bit too big, and I will want to blank one of the "Extra" titles. I assume I can do this with DVDShrink. But maybe there is a faster way, since I'm not doing any transcoding.

Is there a guide with the info I am looking for?

    that's correct, it's a single PGC VTS

as you said, extract all the streams and then use Ifoedit to remux the streams keeping the same stream info. So that's the demuxed 0x80 first, the demuxed 0x81 (if there is one) and finally your stream you want to add

you will now have a new DVD with just one VTS. Replace the VTS_01 part of the name with VTS_10 in every file (IFO/BUP/VOB's)

copy ALL the original IFO/BUP's for the complete original DVD to another folder for safekeeping. Move the original VTS_10.VOB's (you can leave VTS_10_0.VOB) to this folder also and forget about them for now. If you use the same Hard Drive this take seconds to move them

Move the new VTS_10 files into the original DVD folder (IFO/BUP/VOB)

I assume you remuxed the streams with the same stream values (0x80). If they are the same then all you really need to do now is edit the VIDEO_TS.IFO files to add the data for the new stream in VTS_10

open both the VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_10_0.IFO in 2 instances of Ifoedit. In the VTS_10_0.IFO select the VTSI_MAP in the rop window. Browse in the bottom window until you see Video attributes of the VTSTT_VOBS. Browse down until you see the audio part for it and the audio attributes data. The stream you added will be the last stream with values in it. Each audio has 8 values for it, make a note of these 8 numbers if you want but seeing as you have both IFO's open you can copy the info on the fly

in the VIDEO_TS.IFO select VMG_VTS_ATRT in the top window. Look for the VTS_10 attributes and add 1 to the value shown in the amount of audio streams in Title. Click the show reserved values box twice to refresh the page in Ifoedit. Go back to the audio attributes for VTS_10 and you will see a line of 0's. Double click them and a new window will open with all 0's. Change the 8 values to the ones shown in the VTS_10_0. IFO and click OK

now save the IFO and close both IFO's. Open an IFO again and click GET VTS and close Ifoedit again. If my memories correct this should have now put the new audio stream into the DVD

if you did not keep the same stream data values when remuxing then more Ifoediting is required to remap the audio so that everything is as it should be

there might be some mistakes with this small guide but let me know how it goes and I will try to help with any errors

if you want to blank the extras try using Vobblanker or Titlesetblanker. There are other tools but you may find you can do it with these

Thanks! I'll be working on this for a while - first I need to convert and synch the audio I'll be adding, so it'll be a awhile before I begin the process you outline above...
