  1. This was posted in another thread but under a different topic(that topic was talking about imation media).

For the fort worth office max, it is 1x starlogic media. Burning side appears to be good.

  2. LOL i just bought 2 of these, and guess what they are.....PRINCO's! Ahhh! Since I opened only one of them, I dont know if I should keep the other....is it worth keeping 50 princos for 10 bucks?

  3. OfficeMax usually limits their rebates to one per customer or address, so you have to ask, is it worth it for 1X/2X Princos for $30?

  4. I checked them out and they are indeed 1x princo media. I just did a backup and it plays perfectly on my dvd player. The only bad princo experience I had was with some princo labled stuff from (i think) blankcdr.com. They were pieces of crap. You could see through them and they were "washed" on the burning side.

As far as getting more then one 50 pack, all I can say is "that's what neighbors are for", LOL!

All I can say to the southlake (just outside of Ft Worth) folks is don't get em if you dont want them, more for me

Also, the CD'r media that is "free" that they have is ricoh brand cd'rs which is NOT the free media (although they advertise it that way in the store). I have to make another trip back to return the free cd-r's (and pick up another dvdr pack.

  5. Is this media very good for dvd movie backups? I have heard different stories?

  6. Personally I have never gotten any rebate back from OfficeMax !!
I send in all the info they ask for in the time they ask for it but still no rebate??? I tried this three different times for different products.

Like I said, this is just from my personal experience. If it works for other people, thats great for you.

    I won't try it again.

What did you expect for $10? Taiyo Yuden? I bought 100 myself and have burned a couple without any problems on my nec 1300. They are identical to the compusa DVD-R's that sell for about $1 apiece. Haven't had any problems with those either.

I picked up a pack my self. The only problem I had with princo was about a year or 2 ago was buying prime cdr's from officemax, That where princo. They burned great, but after as little as a month they would become unreadable. Im going to be using them for backing up my hard drive. So I hope they last a little while. Also officemax is bad about sending back rebates. Last year I bought a bunch of the rebate stuff and got about half back. Jay

  10. Princos are great for video games.

That doesn't quite make sense to me, why would you want to do that? Why not spend a little more per disk & have your data there a month later?

  11. I bought 2 spools and they burn fine in my liteon 411s and play in my home players, apex AD1500 and GPX2000.

How can I tell at what speed they are burning at? clonedvd does not give me any speed options?

    Thanks

  14. I bought a pack of 50 on monday and all 11 discs that I tried failed at the end of the burn. I've burned ritek G03 and G04, ricoh, compusa princo, cmc(4 out of 5 worked), and verbatim MCC all without any problems. I tried burning with shrink, nero, and dvd x copy. I tried the first 9 discs in the stack, then I tried one in the middle, and then I tried the very last one in the stack. Not a single one worked. I ended up returning them today.

  15. Wow, sounds like you had a bad run with these discs. I have had the opposite. Everything I am burning (up to 4.2gig) at 1x and its all good. I have the pioneer A05 burner and using either nero 5.5x or dvddecrypter to do the burns and its all been great!

    What burner do you have?

    Guys,

Always make photocopies of your stuff before sending it in. If you don't get a check back within the alotted time, then go back to the store manager. They sold you the goods, they have to get you the money back one way or another or it's a false advertising issue. Good idea to keep the store paper too for this until you get the rebate back. If the manager balks at giving you the money you're owed go straight to contacting your states Atty. General.

Hell I'm thinking about filing a complaint with mine on them anyway. They advertise, get lots of people in the store, yet only had like 10 there for Sunday morning. Fine if they want to have a good deal on low quantity for their regular customers and DON'T advertise it, but if they're going to advertise it to draw people in there's room for serious complaint if they know they're only putting out 10 seconds worth of stock and just trying to get people in the store hoping they buy other items instead.

  17. I bought a spindle on Monday. Mine are also Princos. I have gone through 6 so far with no problems. They burn at 2x in my Pioneer A05, and play fine on everything I have tried. I have been giving some church sermons on DVD to my pastor for him to try on his DVD players and still all have worked fine. Mayby I just got a good batch, but I am happy so far! I use RecordNow Max to burn and DVD Architect to author. You can't beat 10.00 for 50 DVD-R's!!

  18. I'm also having very mixed result. I bought two spindles on Monday. I have a NEC-100A that was flashed to NEC1300A using Etena's hacked firmware. After I flashed the dvd drive, I tested with TDK 2X DVD-R (5 disks) and all worked fine. I burned three PS2 games with starlogic disc, using Nero, Alcohol, and DVDecryptor (made the ISO and burned em). All 3 discs burned fine at 2X. For some reason, I can't burn these disc at 1X even if I use DVDecryptor at set it 1X. All three disc wouldn't work on my PS2 (modded). I tried scanning with dvdinfopro and it would either lock up and wouldn't scan at all.

Today just for the heck of it, I backed up my daughter's dance recital DVD-R. I used Smartripper and used Nero 6.3. It burned fine at 2X. However when I scanned with dvdinfopro, I got many error (over 500 towards the end). However on my Pioneer DV-260 player, it's playing fine without any problem. Another thing is, I looked over all the disks and there were 4 disks that seems to be made poorly. One of the disc has ink spot on the top coating on the dvd, another one has crack line on the top coating of the disk. One disk has part of the top coating complelely missing (right next to the word Starlogic, white label is complely gone and you can see/feel the smooth off white label).

Im debating if I should take these back or keep it. Lot of people say realibility of Princo discs after six months are so so but some people are having good luck. Then again it's only 20cents per disc or 60cents if I don't get the rebate (knowing OfficeMax, I probably won't get my rebate, I never got my $45 rebate from Officemax for Prime Peripherals 200 CDs).

personally i have had the opposite experience. i have received all my rebates (probably hundreds of $$), plus i have gotten back rebates when they told me my rebate was INVALID at their website. you have to call the 800 number and speak to an OM representative and if you are a "good customer" they will honor your rebate.
EXAMPLE 1...i bought a CDRW (final price $9.99), sent in rebate even though the particular manufacturer's rebate coupon was NOT in their flyer booklet. talked with manager of an OM and he said just send it in anyway and "he" will make sure the rebate is honored. Yeah, right...BS. sure enough 2 months later i check the website and rebate was invalid.
EXAMPLE 2...bought a device, sent in rebate, check website after 2 month, rebate invalid.
in both cases the rep i spoke with said since i have been a good customer she will honor BOTH rebate. I have received both check , one for $40 and one for $30.
    just my 2 cents.

How long does it take you to burn a full DVD? 1X is about 55 minutes, 2X is about 28 minutes.

I use Nero and it shows the speed it's burning at, but can be deceiving. I've had it tell it it was burning Memorex 4X at 4X, but based on time, it was clearly 1X. That's when my LiteOn 451s had the original firmware. Now it burns at 4X.

You can also use DVDInfo to find the rated speed of the media, which will vary depending on the drive you're using.

  21. I have only used clonedvd with these disks and they all took an hour each so I guess they are burning at 1x.
I will try Nero and see if I can go to 2x.

  23. couldnt get the damn picture to upload from dvdinfopro(over 50kb), but the media showed all green and it was filled to 4.2gb.

IT seems to be good media. The only thing I have to be weary of is burning to the "edge". Anytime I do that the entire dvdr is "coastered". If I got to 4200, "it's all good!"

  24. Very late update:
Many of these disks now have trouble being read. Some of them do not play at all. Argh. My poor files

  25. I also bought some of these around February. I scan almost all of my discs with Nero CD Speed read test and save the results. I burned several discs back in February and the read speed tests looked very stable with no read errors. I just rescanned a couple of the discs, which haven't even been played or been removed from my DVD Case since I burned them, and the read speed tests drop sharply and become very unstable at 3.8GB and have read errors at around 4.3GB. So I'm just adding to what has already been said - cheap media often has very short lifespans, even if they burned perfectly just a few months earlier Damn!

  26. yes, they're fine until the very ends of the disks...around 3.8-4GB like you said. At least now I know its not just me.
