I know that this subject has been over-discussed, but here is a different approach to the problem.

First of all, let me tell you that I have been using stickers for a long time on CDs and DVDs and could not understand all these problems discussed.

Until I tried a CD with MP3 music on my cheap portable CD/MP3 player. Playback started fine, but as it progressed to the middle of the CD it started to mis-read and jump tracks. After a few (10-20) files, playback was possible but occasionally it stuttered. After that it became impossible.

Needless to say, the CD had a sticker on.

Put that in the car CD/MP3 player. Played fine the files that the portable missed. But when I started the car, problems begun.

I then used the same CD in my PC's DVD-ROM drive. Played back perfectly. I was able to copy the files onto the disk at high speed and no errors.

After copying the files, I went into surgery and removed the paper sticker. It was messy and I had to remove it in layers. Once the bulk of the paper was removed, tried it again on the portable player. Not perfect but a descent improvement in readability.

So, my view on stickers now is that stickers can be the source of problems, especially when used with cheap transports on cheap players.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

    I like that

Ya, checking the player could be an option, but only if your the only one that is ever going to use the disk. Unless you mean before trashing a disk and losing the material saved on it, like for making a new disk from the bad one.

You still never know down the road what player which disks may see, so I passed on the labels totally myself. Not even on my own disks! And for certain not for those I provide to others.
