A co-worker of mine wants to buy an off-the-shelf computer system (without monitor). He has four small children and doesn't have to time to build his own. His budget is $600 to $800 for hardware & software. His primary use for this machine will be to (1) digital photo processing, (2) entry-level video backup and movie making (he's expressed an interest in this but is a novice in this area), (3) children games, (4) email and net surffing.
Suggestions ...
(P.S., in terms of video editing / processing he'll probably need an all-in-one package. In terms of DVD backup I recommend freeware tools (DVD Decryptor, SmartRipper, DVDShrink). He should getting burning software with his computer ... if not Nero).

Is there any chance he could bump it up to $1,000, that extra $200 would make a whole world of difference. Even if he didn't build it, he could get one built for him and end up paying less.
