Burning movies to DVD..to watch at home dvd player

hi guys..i have downloaded some movies from the internet...most of them are in MPEG Media File, i have TMPGEnc Plus, VCD Gear, Ace 3 Codecpack, Nero 6 ultra edition, dvd shrink, copytodvd and dvd encrypter...those are all the softwares i have to burn movies on a dvd..I was told i have to first burn the movies to a cd(or vcd) using nero...i try that but i cant cause the movies are too big..and so that's why i got dvd shrink but i dont know how to shrink mpeg files using dvd shrink..also when i use nero to burn..i choose dvd..and burn movie..but it asks me for a ifo., vob., bup. file..and all of my files are mpeg files...so that doesn't work...i am very new at burning dvd's but i am willing to learn...
How does everyone else burn their movies to a dvd so they can enjoy it at home on their dvd player..???...i got movies on my computer but i dont know how to burn them to a dvd ...???
.i have a dvd burner yes it's (+-) both...so i need some serious help...thanks for reading...
