  1. Greetings to you all, this is my first post and probably not the last,at the moment i looking to get some information/help but hopefully if i can grasp it all, i may be able to in the future give back some info that i may learnt back to others in the my situation. So lets get the ball rolling.

I have looked around the site and have found/made some enlightening discoveries.I particularly forund the guides very helpful especially "chicken Man's" guide:How to convert a DivX / AVI / ASF / MPEG1 to VCD.

I have sucessfully coverted some of my digital camera AVI files on to VCD (at times even shocked myself that i could even do it) but i have found a problem with half a dozen avi's that i got from my previous camera and i don't know what to do.

I use TMGPENC and Nero 6 Ultra to convert and susequently burn.

My problems is that i have half a dozen or so AVI's that i cannot convert to mpeg,i have noticed 2 things :

1)When i load file in TMGPENC at step 2 sub section 5 of chicken mans guide it states that the frame rate fps is 14.985fpss and therefore do not know what VideoCD template to use,
    and
2)if i try to use a PAL or NTSC template the Mpeg does not play thru Win Media Player when i go to check it.All i get is a black screen although i do get sound.(i have tried DivX player and get the same thing.)

What do i need to do - do i need a different template of is or is there something i'm missing out (cant see it as when i have avi's wth 25fps they have worked with no problem)

I would be very grateful if someone could help me and point me in the right direct.

Also i am looking to buy a DVD writer in near future - any suggestions of type/model,have heard NEC is good.

Just another whilst i on a roll, when i do get me DVD writer can i convert avi to MPeg and burn more than 1 mpeg files on a DVD or is it completely different?

Sorry there so many questions, but being new to all this i trying to take it all in but inevetibly questions will arise and the wife, bless er doesn't really have an cloo.

Many many thanks in advance of any help, suggetsion etc.

    King regards

You may want to change the VFAPI priority tasking of the Direct Show Priority. Go to Options=>Environmental Setting...=>VFAPI Plug In. Adjust the priority setting to ensure Direct Show is the highest one.

As for looking for the best writer, check DVD Writers database at left to do your research, for starters.

  3. If the frame rate is the sticking point, you can change it. Just open it in a good video editing program and reencode it to the correct frame rate and format. I have done this with wmv files (15 fps) to author as vcd (29.97 fps) mpeg1.
If it works, don't fix it.

Frameserve the avi (to TMPG) with VirtualDub (or VirtulaDubMod)....but first change the framerate within VirtualDub to your required framerate (but DO NOT change the SOURCE framerate leave that alone). To do this go into the VIDEO tab > FRAME RATE> FRAME RATE CONVERSION> NEW FRAMERATE ALL FRAMES FPS box

Also, before frameserving, change the avi's size (VIDEO>FILTERS> ADD>RESIZE) to either 352X 240 or 352 X 288 (for PAL)> to suit your new frame rate (obviously) in the EXPAND FRAME & LETTERBOX option below the actual RESIZE box (dont adjust its actual size if its a typical 320 X 240 'mini video' from a digital camera).

Adjust any brightness or colour levels with the ADD button (again) (Brightness or HSV) highly recommended as mini'vids can be 'way off'.

Ensure your source in TMPG is set at 1:1 (VGA) and encode.

Sounds complex but honestly its dead easy.
