These seem to be a great deal, it's actually $29.99 + a $5 rebate = $24.99 (1 per customer). Of course, $30 for 50 still isn't bad out the door, if you get the TY discs--

You gotta look carefully, but there are some TY's in the Fuji sale this week. I've seen about 1 spindle of TY (made in Japan) for every 5-10 spindles of Made in Taiwan (Which has been PRODISC03 the last I heard) in 2 different BBs. One BB only put the TY discs in the overflow area, the main shelf was all the Taiwan discs. They have a different spindle (it's a black base where the top fits over the black base and has the slot all the way around, the standard TY case). The Taiwan discs have the traditional CMC base, with 3 tabs that fit into 3 slots.

Here's the info from the Made in Japan spindle I bought:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TYG02]
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Disc Type : [DVD-R]
    Manufacturer ID : [TYG02]
Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]
Disc Application Code : [Unrestricted Use : Consumer Purpose]
    Recording Speeds : [1x , 2x , 4x] (8x Cannot Be Detected)
    Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3MB = 4.38GB (4.71GB)]

  4. In the Best Buy in Northern California I went to today, they all seemed to be "made in Japan" and thus TYs (TYG02).

The package says 8x burn but I got the same DVD identifier read-out that says cannot detect 8x. My burner only does 4X anyway, but I was wondering.

  5. The BB near me had 30-50 spindle's, all of the made in Japan. Not one made in Taiwan. Good deal. Wish they give more than 1 rebate per addresss.

  6. it's Fuji, you'll be lucky if you even get the one rebate. Keep copies and be prepared to fax them to them later.

  7. I found one made in Japan spindle at my local BB, in the back, at the bottom of the pile.
They are TYG02's, and list as good for x4, even though the label says x8.

But, to get a 50 pack of TYG02's for $20 is a great deal, so no complaints here.
