  1. their website claims a burn time of 8 minutes for 4.7 gigs, i just burned 4.2 gigs and it took 29 minutes!!!!.....my pioneer 107 has the 1.18 firmware and i am running a beige g3/768 megs of ram/osx 10.2.8 and i am using the burner with an ata100 ide card....this can't be normal as it took about 28 minutes to burn 4.2 gigs with 4X TDK media...

    They both sound like 2X and not 8X. It sounds like the 107 is throttling back because of an interface issue. Can you install in on another channel?

  3. What are you using as far as software? I was running Toast 6.01, 28 minutes burn time, upgraded to 6.03, 28 minutes burn time, upgraded to 6.07, 7 minutes burn time, I changed nothing else, I just think Toast has some issues with 8x burns in older versions because the selection menu listed 1-12x DVD, whereas the newer version lists 1x-16x DVD for burn speed.

  4. i tracked it down to the ata card, it's an older card i guess that isn't well supported on the mac...at first i had buffer underrun errors, so by chance i swapped the ide cables on the motherboard and that took care of that problem...
