  1. Finally, after a long time learning my best mate Dave has passed his driving test. He nailed it first time, and got a damn fine pass score.

    Congratulations, Dave!

  4. I did mine years ago and found it to be a piece of piss. Flew through it at 17. Back in those days there were none of this "theory" stuff either. Have you passed yours Cobra ?

  5. Apparently, we drive on the left because it leaves your sword hand free. From the old days when people used horses.

So you guys are on the wrong side of the road! :P

EDIT - Just like Dave, I passed mine first time. I passed when I was 17.

That's because most guns are right handed and are easier to shoot and more accurately aimed cross body...you don't want to shoot your passenger you know.

    congrats to Dave.

I don't mean to demean anyone, but is it considered a great accomplishment if you get it first time ?

    I don't understand.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  11. Actually, the local brewery still deliver their ales to pubs using a horse-drawn cart. Some things are still very rural where I live.

Is that because of the layout of the town, the standards of other drivers, the sheer number of ther drivers or some other reason ?
    If in doubt, Google it.

  14. I passed January 1988, first time, aged 17. Drove well but got half my highway code questions wrong. They did not worry so much about the theory side of it back then.

  15. Jim,

It's the layout and heavy traffic. Nobody drives too manically, but there are a few who decide they're late so it's a good excuse to cut everyone else up.

As for theory, I passed mine with full marks in record time. I memorised every single question they could ask (it's computer, touch-screen based) so I flew through it.

I guess I'm pretty lucky where I live. We have a population of about 100,000 and our city is pretty well-designed to handle the traffic flows. It doesn't stop those that like to travel 10-20km/h under the speed limit though. Sometimes I wish I had a bullbar
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hello,

Jim - Move to Michigan, we have a speed limit of 70mph (you do the conversion!). People go 80 and up if they can on the freeways (highways or interstates for you non-midwest peons!!).

    Kevin

--I don't drive that fast, I go the speed limit of 70! actually it' 65mph closer to cities and Detroit.---

70 * 1.6 = 102km/h. Most of our country roads and highways are 100km/h, with the major freeways 110. Around towns it is 60km/h on major thoroughfares, but 50km/h in residential streets, and 40km/h in school zones between 8 and 9:30AM and 2:30-4PM.

    Bloody hard to remember !
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Sounds like Melbourne

I have a trick for those speed humps. Just run your left set of
wheels in the gutter and your right set hardly bounce over the
    hump, whatever speed.

When I first started doing this, It was funny to see the driver behind
check it out and begin to imitate me around the third hump or so.

PS: Don't try this on pyramid or sharp pointed humps - bust your
    clacker mate!

Ballarat and Melbourne would probably have the same driving laws, no ?

It is quicker for me to drive from Ballarat to the MCG than it is for someone to drive from Deer Park out to Ferntree Gully or down to Frankston...
