So do you like it or not? We just switched back again in the US.

    Do you care for it?

Depends on if we are springing forward or falling back...I enjoy the extra hour to sleep in when you gain an hour but you're completely adjusted after a few days anyway so its moot. And daylight savings time sure beats adjusting our clocks every few seconds every so many days.

Now leap year, THAT sucks. I know a guy who's birthday falls only in a leap year.

The time switcheroos don't bother me all that much so I'm pretty ambivalent on the issue ... except for one niggly thing. The bad news is that the switch back to standard time always occurs before Halloween ... forcing kids to trick-or-treat in the dark unless they start out exceptionally early. Couple that with the fact that there's a lot of adult "partying" on Halloween night and it becomes a recipe for traffic accidents. The good news is that a bill has been proposed to extend Daylight Saving Time until the Sunday "after" Halloween. If that change is made, I'd have no trouble with the switcheroo at all.

Why would we have to adjust our clocks if we didn't have daylight savings time? I can understand setting the clocks if we didn't have leap year.

Yeah the daylight thing is offsetting. One hour forward then one hour back is a net of zero.

Daylight savings is done because there is more daylight in the summer than in winter. We humans tend to live our days in sunlight and our nights in darkness. So daylight savings time adjusts our clocks to the cycle of the sun...relative to where we are in the world of course.

You can make the 1 hour shift all at once or do it periodically throughout the year. Look at the history of daylight savings...there's been all kinds of different proposals for how often and by how much to make the change.

yoda313 yeah it equals zero because the longer days in summer offset the shorter days in winter, just like our time changes. That's the whole point, its a cycle.

Hate it, I would prefer to have a little more daylight at the end of the day. I don't need it until about 8A.M.....

  8. Daylight Saving Time is not observed everywhere and they don't change their clocks every few seconds every so many days. I have to get up early in the morning and to me Daylight Saving Time sucks.

I never said they did hudsonf, I said the current method is better than doing it that way. The closer you get to the Equater the more insignificant daylight savings time is.

Ironicly, we have more DST months than ST months. Maybe we should just 'split the difference' and always be 1/2 hour in between all the time. Then we wouldn't ever have to bother with it .

That's right!, we don't have daylight savings here. Dusk is at 6:10AM and dawn at 6:10PM all year long!.

I would rather have the sun set at about 9PM every day and go to work in the dark.

I banked over 90 hours this year. I'm going to use them this winter for a nice vacation, while y'all are at work. Next year y'all will remember this post and bank your own hours?

It doesn't really affect me in Hawaii, but my phone calls to the mainland get thrown off. Since we stay on the same time all year round, I don't keep track of when the rest of the country changes thier clocks.

it's pointless, out-dated, and completely backwards now that we have this wonderous new thing known as 'electrical lighting'

Xylob the Destroyer its main purpose now exists because of electrical lighting. It saves electricity. Other rationales have included lowering crime and traffic related accidents.

yes, but now that it's getting dark at 4pm, kids are walking home from school in the dark.
you never hear about kids being abducted on their way TO school -- dirt-bags are still sleeping then
wouldn't you rather have your kids go to school in the dark instead of come home from school in the dark?

and just exactly how does it save electricity?
instead of having to turn the lights on in the morning, now I have to turn them on earlier in the evening. it's the same. an hour of lights on before I go to work, or lights on an hour earlier after work, what's the difference?

    so you are proposing what?
    one time everywhere?
that would give us Noon at Greenwich being actual high noon, but noon in NY is still dark as hell out because the sun won't be up for 3 more hours?

    yer an odd one...
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll waste every weekend for the rest of his life drinking beer in a boat.

I'm all for destroying the idea of MORNING when morning is a time of day that moves depending on when it gets dark or when the sun comes up.

The world should be ran 24/7, more jobs, less crowding. Time zones are stupid.

No one should have to do math to figure out what time it is for their friend a few states over when you KNOW its 6. Or in fact when you THINK it 6pm and in reality its 12am and you don't know because of stupid timezones.

Take your pick. Farmers have historically been opposed to daylight savings.

This whole time-shift thing is bullshit. It freakin' stupid to have to bust out a slide rule everytime someone asks you what time it is (I know that is a bit extreme, but that's how I feel). Most people argue that it's all about the kids... You know what I say... **** the kids. Everything else we do in this shitty little world is centered around those little bastards. Can't we keep one thing for ourselves? Let the little pricks go to school in the dark. I don't know about you but I actually enjoy a little sunlight at the end of my day.
