Me, I'll take a giftcard - you can always add cash to it yourself. And as long as it's to a store like best buy you can get pretty much anything you want

well it depends ...for most of us we would not mind any gift cert. from geek gadgets store ...but people that have no clue are better off sticking with money ...besides with a newborn...I am better off with the cash...dam I go thru dipers like there is no tomorrow

I prefer the cash. Why give someone something good as cash to a store, when you can give them cash and they can pick the store on their own. What If I feel like going to Wal-Mart instead of Best Buy? Maybe I want to go the Barnes & Noble instead of Borders. Maybe I found the item I want is cheaper at GameStop than at Electronics Boutique. Gift Cards are for young kids that you don't want using cash at places you don't want them to be. I'd get my kid a Toy'R'Us Giftcard so he's not spending money at the arcade or on candy.

I got one of those VISA gift cards and that was a pretty cool thing. Couldn't use it at an ATM or draw money on it, but I could go to any store that accepts VISA. I live in Vegas, if they don't carry the Big 3, thay ain't stayin' in biznez long. So those kindda gift cards are pretty cool. You get me a Tower Records Gift Certificate and you might as well hand over $50 to Tower Records as a charitable donation in my name. I never get the time to go to the store and look around. I'd also be able to find what I want and get 3 other things for 1/3rd the cost at Wal-Mart.

I put thought into it. I figured the person deserves $50 instead of $5. If I really don't like them they get a $5 gift certificate to Bombay Company or Baby GAP, when they have no baby. Like you can find anything for $5 at Bombay. :P

If I want someone's thought into giving me a gift, they had better be making it themselves. The only thought my wife puts into my gift is lighting candles on our headboard. She'll see a Christmas surprise and excited look on my face any time of the year.
