1.6TB LACIE BIGGER DISK EXTREME FW800 7200RPM

Probably 4 of Hitachi's new 7K400 drives striped together. Not a huge ripoff considering the drives themselves are going for over $400/ea new. Now all I have to do is get a collection going. Who'd like to start?![]()

Good find, but I've learned to stay away from anything branded "Celeron." :P

Celeron??? Where'd you get that from?Originally Posted by IAIHMBNothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

I see now, I think you meant to post in another thread. Although that Soyo mobo does support P4 processors as well as Celerons.

It's 4 physical hard drives with 5 platters each, a raid controller, a case, fans, etc.

Provantage has the 1TB for $1067.74 which is just 4 250GB drives. It DOES say 1.6TB in the initial description, but everything else says 1TB. The 4 400GB drives alone would cost more than what they're charging for that. I think the 1.6TB on their site is a misprint.Originally Posted by freestyler
First time I've heard that about Hitachi drives. The reviews I've seen online seem to say good things about the 7K400.Originally Posted by thayne
Also, charging sales tax on shipping is illegal. If that really was the case, you should talk to a lawyer or at least the BBB about it.Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore. -
Well I know the IBM "DeathStar" drives got their name from something. We had some at work, and now we don't. I'd rather wait until the other manufacturers come out with 400GB drives before I believe they're safe for mainstream. I don't think Maxtor, WD, and Seagate would just sit on their hands for this long unless they had a good reason not to release a 400GB model.
Just get a JBOD setup and go to town with 250GB drives. Hotswappable mayhem. My new cabin has a rack under the stairs for the wired networking in the house and I'm planning on doing just that with it for storing DVD images for playback. Plus it's tucked away directly under the floor of the home theater wiring tracks

I want this... so very bad. I want it so bad I can feel it... inside my pants.

Seagate hasn't even come out with a 250GB drive yet. Wouldn't you say Maxtor, WD and Hitachi already proved that it's 'safe?'Originally Posted by rallynavvie
Sounds like a pretty sweet setup. Just think, with GbE you can stream multiple movies to different PCs at once.:POriginally Posted by rallynavvie
