I have compiled a DVD from VHS footage and want to make duplicate copies of the disc. When I use Nero and copy on the fly with the source disc in the ROM drive without using the Hard Drive space it takes about 25 minutes to copy a 4.7GB disc and the buffer level seems to leap up and down all the time. Is it quicker to burn an image of the original compilation to the hard drive and use that to make the copies or is 25 mins the quickest I'll get? Thanks

  2. 25 minutes seems excessive, but I guess that all depends on your system, processor speed, memory, etc.

If your making multiple copies, I would burn the image first. Just based on the fact that the hard drive should be faster then what your using to read the DVD, especially if it's external.

  3. i've never copies on the fly before. on a non-protected disc like that i just copy and paste it to my hard drive and record with nero. a full disc should only take about 15 minutes.

Copying on the fly will be much slower and possible even give you errors. Create an image on your hard drive and copy from there ..... 6 to 10 minutes most likely .... depending on your system of course.

I copy on-the-fly for duplication all the time. Using 4x speed, takes 15 minutes. Discs often flawless, and ROM drive on ATA card, burner on motherboard IDE.
