  1. hello,

    transfering dv footage from my camera appears as a sony video codec...
    ...when i edit in premiere what do i save it as?

    is it microsoft AVI or microsoft DV AVI?

    i need highest quality.

    I normally use the microsoft DV avi codec and I do not have to complain about quality.

    You can also download and install other codecs depending on what your objective is.

    AVI DV. Premiere should be smart enough to only rerender only where your original footage has changed (e.g. cross fades, overlays etc) or when new footage has been generated (e.g. titles). Everything else should be exactly as you recorded it.

    I can think of only three reasons to do differently

    1. If space is at an absolute premium and you need to squeeze the file size down

    2. You have completed editing and now need to reencode for your delivery mechanism (DVD, web streaming etc)

    3. You need to use some or all of the footage in another program that does not accept DV files (eg. early versions of Digital Fusion)
