Folks,
This sure isn't your usual question around here, but let me toss this out to you, anyway.
I'm back after kind of "moving on to other things" since I got my Panasonic E80H a while back. I've got that, and an E50H. Well, I just wanted to get more hard drive, and use the E80H for other recording duties, so I just got my hands on the new E95H.
Cool machine, except for one EXASPERATING "feature" -- the insanity of this "TV Guide On Screen" system. Oh, you can turn the whole thing off, no problem. BUT, turning it off leaves you with a REALLY BRAIN-DEAD timer programming system. There's no way to add a title to your program. There's no way to tell it anything but "weekly" -- no "Monday through Friday" or "Monday through Saturday" or other intelligent frequencies. No, you've got to use that dang TV Guide On Screen thing, and that is the ONLY way you can get a title on your program, from what I can tell.
Oh, and what happens if the program you want to record is on one of the channels that the guide doesn't happen to list? Bearing in mind, of course, that it only has about half of the BASIC CABLE channels you actually get? Then, you're back to the brain-dead manual approach. WHAT ABSOLUTE, UTTER NONSENSE!!! Geez, the E80H had a manual system that was 10 times more intelligent than this piece of junk!!
You mean I'm gonna have to type in the name of each program I'll record forever and ever amen every night AFTER I've recorded it, because I can't get the thing to let me input a name on a recurring recording when I program it?? WHAT ABSOLUTE, UTTER NONSENSE!!!
Man, if anyone knows if there's some way to get back to an "old style" programming screen in these new recorders, please let me know! And, let this be a word of advice to you -- maybe that E100H is a better way to go than these brain-dead new "TV Guide" machines!
I timer-record about four different "Monday through Friday" things, and it looks like only ONE of them is on the dang TV Guide. All of the others won't have any titles on them at all, and they'll record 7 days a week, not just Monday through Friday. This is NOT progress!!
