  1. i have tried to connect my desktop pc to my laptop with a patch cable thru my eithernet card using microsofts xps transfer wizard but only the laptop shows up it cant connect to the desktop. my question is, is it possible that my desktop card needs to be updated cos its just a plain card that came with the box? please help and thanks for your time

    If you're connecting two computers directly via Ethernet cable, it needs to be a crossover cable, not a standard patch cable. If you're using a hub or a switch, patch cables will work ok.

    What OS are you running on your computers? 2000? (XP should be about the same)

    right click on network neighborhood and select properies
    right click on local connection and select properties
    put a check mark in the box for file and print sharing

    then in explorer, right click on the folder you want to share and select "sharing"
