  1. I have got a Dual Layer DVD burner in one computer, and a Normal DVD Burner in another computer. I have been backing up my dvd's using DVD Shrink, on my normal DVD Burner, burning onto DVD-R's. Usually the quality seems to be alright, but not DVD Quality.

Would burning a DVD Movie onto a DVD+R always make the DVD better quality because of how you can fit more on a DVD+R as it burns on Dual Layer using my Dual Layer DVD Burner?

I would normally use DVDShrink Beta Version to shrink a dvd to the standard size, and then burn it using Nero Burning Rom, and sometimes the quality is really crap, but usually it will be alright, but lately it has been having to shrink dvd's to 60% or as low as about 47% and they are getting quiet bad quality. This is all using my normal dvd burner on a DVD-R as I have only got the dual layer burner a couple of days ago.

Please get back to me with your thoughts on this matter.

You can get 4.7GB DVD+Rs, which are going to result in exactly the same results.

However, if you were to burn to a DL disc (be it + or -), then you can do a 1:1 copy. Don't think just because its + that its 8.5GB capacity all the time !

Update to the latest DVDShrink (3.2 I think). Learn to remove any audio streams you are never going to listen to.
    If in doubt, Google it.

If you burn to a dual layer disk, you should not have to recompress, so you should be able to get and exact copy. The jury is still out on compatability with dual-layer discs in stand alone players. I would try carefully before committing to far.

There are alternatives to dual layer, including updating to the newest version of shrink (3.2), which has significant quality enhancements over previous versions, to DVD Rebuilder with CCE.

Dual-layer is definately the nirvana, but it might be a generation or two before compatability is where single layer is now.
