    Hi all,

I have a Pioneer DVR-106 burner. Problem I get is that every few discs I burn a disc that freeze's during playback on my standalone player. I used different brands of A grade Ritek G04 discs. All the same results. This happenin say every 8-10 discs.

My system is setup as follows. Windows XP pro
2no SATA drives in sata sockets (operating system installed on one of these)
1no 250gb hdd as primary master for storage
    Pioneer writer is secondary master
    DVD-Rom is secondary slave

Any ideas guys? Thanks for all replies in advance.

  2. what brands of "A" grade ritek media are you using.
some of the supposed "A" grade arent A at all, there RMA's IMO,as ive seen recently in the UK,with my experiences with Ridisc purple topped dvd-rs.
they had fingerprints and marks like little circles all over them.
it might be that they have slipped a few faultys in there to save £$,but thats a can of worms.
the only dvd-rs lately i have had excellent quality with is taiyo yudens(verbatim),and Ritek white top injet printables.
as for your sytem,it seems that every 8-10 discs wouldnt really be a hardware or driver fault.

    Hi thanks for your reply,

Do you know a good supplier for the taiyo yudens in the uk? Which white top ritek do u use? I thought if the are G04 they are all the same, apart from b grade. I've used Ridata, ridisc, datasafe (white & silver tops), ritek branded & pioneer pio discs.

youll get all you need there.
the TY are verbatim branded-metal azo dye, very good indeed.
and the white top injet printables are Ritek branded, just plain white tops, dark purple writing side.

theres been a lot of news lately, about the quality of Ritek media, pruple topped Ridisc ones, and some of the other riteks, like "landscape ones-replints with less than perfect dye on them, same for +R,purple topped, reprinted with inperfect dye.
a lot of retailers sell them with a sale but no return policy.
blankdiscshop sold them for a while for really cheap prices, but i think there all gone now(thank god).
try a pack of the white tops,or the TY and see how it goes.

I also use a Pioneer DVDR 106D Burner and have no problems at all using the following method.

    1. Use Shrink to re-author and backup.

    2. Use imgTool Classic and make an ISO image.

    3. Burn with DVD Decriptor.

Forget step 2 if your drive is formatted NTFS and create a single ISO file using DVD Shrink.

No coasters, no skips and a backup that is hard pick from the original DVD, more importantly, I use the cheapest DVD media I can find.

Just to let you guys know.

It got to a point the every three discs were not playing back correctly. So I changed the pioneer A06 for the NEC2510a. Burnt around 50 discs so far, not a single coaster.

All this raving about pioneer burners, imo they are no better than nec.
