Play it using Winamp and you get all the info (system , framerate etc.)

Or try VirtualDubMod, or Gspot Codec Information Appliance. However, VDM crashes on some files when I do the File>>File Info thing..

    If in doubt, Google it.

In my case Gspot says (for mpeg files) "mpeg/vcd/dvd type" that is all (not much I guess)

Are you? I never use Gspot for mpegs (useless). Try Winamp and you'll see what what I mean.

Unfortunately I'm not on my encoding computer so I can't check.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    How about your playback computer?

I'm on my forum computer now and it can even encode ... can you believe that?

    I'm at work

I'm not gonna push the issue. I had a funny feeling I had gotten bitrate from an MPEG using GSpot before. I could be wrong
    If in doubt, Google it.

To be fair, I don't have GSpot installed on anything but my encoding machine.
    If in doubt, Google it.

My encoding machine has plenty of grunt and only the bare essentials on it.

My other machine takes about 2 minutes to load. I really need to reformat at some stage ...
    If in doubt, Google it.
