    hey guys. I'm totally new to caputring and was just wondering if it is possible to capture still images from tv using my laptop which has an s-video port.

    If it is do you know where i could find a guide telling me what equipment i need, how to set it up and what software would be the best. Thanks

    Your S-video port is probably an output.
    You need an external capture device like canopus or ADVC
    try looking in "capture cards" to your left
