  1. I am expecting a PIONEER 8X DVR-107 DUAL DVD R/RW DRIVE BURNER
to arrive at my house tomorrow and I am a newbie to DVD Burners. I researched alot and found that the DVR-107 is one of the best by the reviews and everything.

While I was researching the forums not too long ago I ran across a link with firmware for this drive that ppl went nuts about.

    DVR-107D v1.16 - RPC-1 + 12xRip + nx4all

However on the official Pioneer website in the download section.. they have listed a Firmware v.1.18

I am not sure which one to go with. I feel like the v1.16 was made by someone or enhanced and is not official so it has some goodies but v1.18 might be better... so I do not know what to think. Can anyone please help me out.

Also anyone who has this drive, can you recommend me the best brand of CDS to get for either RW or R- or watever. Thanks alot for the help!

  2. I recommend using 1.18 RPC-1 by Gradius (http://gradius.rpc1.org) - it has been riplock and region free patched. Unfortunately, I can't recommend >NIL:'s 1.18 nx4all, because many people are experiencing problems with the uprated speeds. I do appreciate all the hard work that >NIL: puts into his firmware releases though - he goes through a lot, especially from the nagging enthusiasts who always seem to want more!

The most important thing to do, whichever firmware you decide to use, is to stick to the media's rated speed. There are a few exceptions to this, for example, certain Taiyo Yuden, RiTEK, and Mitsubishi media can often be "uprated" with little or no problems, but it's usually better to stay on the safe side.
