I think there are a few more parts to a computer than that. :P

  3. Well, I've never had a complaint about AMD, and I've purchased at least a dozen of their processors in the past. The 400 MHz Barton core is supposed to be excellent.

And I'm a big MSI fan, although I've never dabbled with nVidia chipsets before.

I'd probably go with a full GB of RAM, and in Dual Channel configuration if the board supports it.

    I think it's a good core system.

I'm using a 2500 Barton in my encoding machine presently. Nvida on the motherboard and Nvidia on the Video board.

For my system, it works great. I upgraded from a 1800XP processor, and the Barton, along with the faster DDR 3200 memory the newer motherboard and the Nvidia chips was almost twice as fast as the 1800 in video processing. The system integrates well.

I'm sticking with my present setup for a while longer. In about a year or two, maybe move to the newer processors. I think what you have selected will work fine.

I'm curious as to what dual-channel RAM does for AMD systems like that with a 400 FSB. I know on mine I need dual channel to support bus speeds, but at 400 MHz you'd only need PC1600 for it.
