  1. I have an AVI movie with a separate .srt subtitles, I'm trying to convert it into VCD but I found out there'll be needed to first make the subtitles actually part of the movie.

    How can I do this?

    ok, this is not to hard to do,

    go to http://www.virtualdub.org/
    click on filters.
    the filter you need is called subtitler 2.4.
    download it and unzip the file into your virtualdub plugins folder.
    load your avi into virtualdub.
    next, in virtualdub, click video->filters->add->subtitler.
    after then load your sub station alpha file* into the subtitler and click
    preview, the use the scroll bar to check out the subtiltes,
    and then your done just choose your video and audio compression and click save as...
    and wait for it to encode.

    *if you need to convert the .srt file to .ssa(sub station alpha) use a program called subtitle tool, which you can find under tools on this site, after you download it, open the zip file, and double click on subtitletool.exe, the program will load, now, up at the top of the program box you will see new, open, and save, click open load your srt. file in it and it will give you a box that asks for frame rate, put your frame rate in (avi's are usually 30 fps) or if you click detect from avi, the program will do it for you, if the subtitle file is named the same as the avi file and if you don't have to make an adjustments click save and it gives you a choice of microdvd, .srt and ssa.
    choose ssa and then keep going with the above part of the faq.
    hopes this helps,
    sincerely,
