  1. Hi, I have had my above player for about 2 years in which time it has played everything that I have thrown at it. For the last 2-3 months it has stopped playing SVCD's which I have burned but it still plays normal DVD's and DVD-R's perfectly. SVCD's which I have burned a while ago and watched on my player will now not play, my player displays the fact that it's a VCD but it cannot play the disc. I wanted to check if anyone else has had a smiliar problem with their player and if so how did they remedy it, my only other option is to send it to a pioneer service centre for them to have a look at.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Pioneer use a twin-laser pickup, which consists of seperate lasers for reading DVDs and CDs vs DVD -r/RW or CD-R/RW. One of these may have failed or has drifted out of alignment. An easy test would be to throw a simple VCD on CD-R/RW and see if it plays.

My 525 did the same thing recently. Then it stopped playing regular DVDs too (well, it was pot luck from day-to-day). I needed a whole loading mechanism replaced. Fortunately I had an extended warranty so it didn't cost me anything. My player was making rattling/groaning noises before I had it repaired, BTW. It's back to its usual 'I'll play anything' mode now.
