  1. So anyone no why divx and realplayer, plus bsplayer, wont play my avi's anymore, but vlc and winamp will play them just fine??

    Details below in previous post...

    Hey all

I have been getting to no the scene for a while now, and have obviously dl allot of different codecs and players, not to mention utilities like mpeg to avi and various coversion type utils that we no doubt all dl and try out at least once.

My current problem though has me vexed completely, it's a mind boggler it realy is.

It all started early this morning, when I got back from town with my shiny new ddr ram smile.gif

I installed the ram, and everything went fine, no problems, that is untill I decided to have a Babylon 5 night and watch some babylone 5 episdoes smile.gif

So I got out my backed up babylon 5 cd's all in .avi format, started divx player and put in a cd.

Lo and behold the avi's on the cd played as far as video goes, but the audio was just a hissss with static sounds, no talking at all, untill i fast forwarded a touch and then the audio talk would be very slow, like slow motion audio. It got worse to the point were not all I get is static.

THING IS Though, WinAmp, vlc do play the avi's fine, the video is fine and the audio is fine, but if I open the avi's for play in either realplayer, divx player or windiows media player = all current versions, I get video but no audio, and in divx I get the static fuzz sound.

Now I no what your thinking, use a prog like G spot to try and find out what the avi wer eencoded with, well I did just that and they were done using either divx or xvid and ac3 for the sound, thing is though g spot says I have all those codecs installed and working. And just to be sure I reinstalled ac3 and divx and xvid, but the problem remains.

If I copy one of the avi's of cd back to hd it is still the same, winamp, vlc will play the files fine, but any of my other players wont play the sound, divx player being the worse of them all.

Now I no I can still play the files fine in vlc and winamp, BUT I would dearly like to no what caused the other players not to play them as winamp and vlc do.

5 days ago ALL MY PLAYERS played the files fine, and I cant think of any new codecs I have installed that would mess up those particular players. soo.

I am well and truly stuck lol, and I need an experts help sad.gif so please help me smile.gif

    Anyone any ideas?????

    NoNickNamesLeft.

PS: Yes I did uninstall all the codecs and players and then reinstalled them all again, problem remains.

I even installed ffdshow but as yet I cannot fathom the programk out its complicated sad.gif

    HELP!!!!!!!
