Lately when I have been backing up my DVD's I have been having this weird problem. I check the blank disc's before they burn and they are in the expected good quality. But after they have finished being burnt to they have a line going from the centre of the disc for about 1 centimetre inwards. It is darker than the disc color, looks almost like a dye run color.
Would this be my burner playing up (it is a Pionerr Ao6) or is the media faulty (Princo dvd-r)?
Could someone please help out with this one please?
Thanks in advance

Sounds like CRAPPY media. This may or may not affect playback. Try some good DVD-Rs like TY or Maxell (MIJ) to see if these burn in uniform solid purple color.
A good device to remember this is a famous live album:
DEEP PURPLE

Princo has had problems in the past. Sometimes deep purple is not always a tell take sign. I have some FUJI (mcc discs) that are darker that my Maxell (TY's) .... and the maxell's are the best... but are a tad lighter than the Fuji's
Japan vs everywhere else is a good sign.... a few mfg's today that use the best OEM's have been FUJI, SONY, MAXELL and APPLE.... any other mfg is suspect as they have used crap OEM"s for their production needs. -
I've never seen those those brands here, only Laser, Verbatim (which are really expensive) and Ritek

A buddy of mine just bought a Pioneer 07 type burner. His burns similar rings (approx. 1cm, starting from inner) on Ritek media (-). He has no playback problems using several DVD players.

on my BTC burner every DVD-R has this wierd harline line around 1 cm from center of disk.. no playback problems. Don't worry about!

Thanks for that, I just finished reading the topic about the DVD stickers, I was using the Neato ones and just changed to a cheaper (Laser) brand that cost half the price but are very thin and hard to work with, after reading that topic, I will stop using the labels and see if that does it

If the disc plays / verifies OK and it was burnt in a high speed recorder, it may be because the recorder started writing at a slower speed then effectively stopped recording, spun the disc up again and started again from where it left off. The difference in write strategy can cause the ring effect - I occasionally can see one ring on discs made by my A07 if writing at 8x (it tends to start at 4x then pick up dramatically).

The fact that you're using Princo makes me suspicious. Their media is questionable at best. Try Taiyo Yuden (TYG01 media ID) or Maxell branded (TYG01 or RITEKG04) media and see how that works. -
It's a line going from the centre towards the outside, about 1 centimetre long, not a circular line going around

That's crap media. The dye should appear uniform and even, with no swirls, dots, lines, or any other variations in color.
