I recently graduated from Ulead VideoStudio to Vegas 5. I'm a bit overwhelmed, but determined to learn it. My first Vegas project is simple, just editing commercials out of a TV show. Seems like there is a number of ways to do a simple cut, but none of them look all that easy to do. I finally settled on splitting each event at the commercial points to form smaller events that encompass commericials only, then just deleting the corresponding event. There must be an easier way...any ideas?

  2. In Vegas 4 (maybe works in 5) to select and delete sections (like commercials) use the I key to begin a selection, (in) use the O key to end a selection (out), use select loop region by right clicking on the loop region bar (or use shift Q), and then delete. Make sure the "auto ripple" function is on, so that the gap closes up after you delete your chunk of commercial.

I am also in need of some simple Vegas Editing tips.

I gave up on Adobe PP and got Vegas 5 a month ago. It looks really easy once you know how to do something, but I do not know how to do much as of yet.

I have a clip that starts out black and fades in. But the source was not as black as my title page is that I created. So I need to put a fade (in from solid black) in on this clip so it will be as black as my title card is.

I need the two blacks to match perfectly so you don't see the seam in the cut.

Can someone tell me how to put a one second fade in from black into this clip.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

Pick media generators -> solid color -> black and drop it onto the timeline in between your title and your video, then crossfade the black into the video.

Thanks how I would do it.

  6. If you are looking for an EASY way to do a cut or split, just click on the spot you want to cut so that the edit line is over it & hit "s".
