If I want to make a backup of a dvd bought in France to play it on a dvd player (NTSC), do I have to rip the dvd on my hard disk or is there a program which allow me to do that directly.
Thanks

Hello,
You can use dvdshrink to shrink the vobs to your harddrive. To play it on a normal dvd player it either has to play pal discs on its own or you have to convert it to ntsc (difficult!).
If you want to convert it search the forum in the search field for "pal to ntsc conversion". That should be a start.
This will also help:

P.S. You can play it on your computer ok, just watch out if you switch your region coding (limited to 4 - or get a hack like dvd genie)Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -

I myself am not aware of any on the fly dvd copiers with pal conversion and region modulation. I may be wrong. Unless you dont have the HD space,I would go with yoda's suggestion.
