man...I'm an idiot---ASF to MPG help.....12 hours wasted

After much trial and error on the conversion process, I have decided to seek peer-help, you guys. Can anyone give me instuctions to how I can do this, and with what software.

I have tried TMPGE, but I get some error/not supported format or something of the sort. I've tried Virtual Dub 1., but I get MP43 decompressor not found. I'm going insane here, somebody help me!

Microsoft owns ASF and is guarding it so convertors are not readily available. Virtual Dub 1.3c was capable of the conversion but MS sued the creators of Vdub and they pulled it. There are copies floating around out there though.

Okay, here's what you have to do:

• Download dbPowerAMP Converter
• Download WMA plug-in for dbPowerAMP
• Download TMPGENC (any version)
• Load the ASF into dbPowerAMP and save as .WAV
• Start TMPGENC
• Select VIDEO: .ASF
• Select AUDIO: .WAV
• Select LOAD (load the template you want to use)
• Select START.

That's it! This was taken from the various guides here on VCDTALK. I've done a few ASF files already and it works perfectly.

Damn. I can't load the ASF file, it says can not open or is not supported.

Anyone know how to convert a AVI (MPEG4 V3) to a MPG?

wondering if someone is able to help me.. out aswell..
converting asf.. to mpg..but the audio in the mpg.. jumps/cuts out where the video iz okay.. i tried convertin the audio only and it still does same thing.. program im using is tmpgenc
and i also tried dbpoweramp..loadin up.. asf and than -> wav.. it juz loads up and finishes instantly.. makin a blank audio file..

any clues?
