  1. 1) Media Player = messed up aspect ratio
    2) WinDVD = Image goes black after 15min, audio still plays. Video is fine after pressing stop
    3) PowerDVD = Artifacts pop up

after installing SVCD codec from this site

    1) Media Player = no change
    2) WinDVD = Entire PC screen goes nuts with swrily colorfull horizontal lines, TV screen is fine and video/audio plays.
    3) PowerDVD = no change, same artifacts

Is there no good PC svcd playback solution? WinDVD is great if it wasn't for the image going black after 15min of viewing =(

I never had problems with WinDVD or PowerDVD. Both played SVCDs great. Other great choices are Media Player Classic (only player to support soft encoded subs in a SVCD) and STHDVD, which is basically a dedicated SVCD player. Both of these will require a third part mpeg decoder to be installed though.

It sounds like you might just have a codec conflict. You say you downloaded an mpeg decoder but, which one? You don't have any codec packs installed do you?

Somethings wrong with your windows,i have powerdvd5 as my only mpg2 decoder and it plays any svcd or mpg2 with no problems as long as the file isnt corrupt,mplayer2 plays all the files with no glitches, sounds like you have oodecs problem that maybe be taking over the mpg2 playback, try playing a mpg2 with mplayer2 and click on files/properties/advanced and see whats beeing used to play the file, then uninstall it.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

if you installed powerdvd and windvd -- you didnt need to install another mpeg2 codec for sure ..

in fact - not so good ..

also - if you have both powerdvd and windvd on your system , you should install windvd after powerdvd ...

also -- did you register windvd ?

windvd and media player clasic play svcd's perfect ..
