  1. I am curious if people that have a Quality Burner with the Right Hacks notice any difference in burning Quality 4x media at 8x... compared to quality 8x at 8x.
Comment with Burner and media used so we can get a feeling for which Burners and Media work the best for you.

Burning faster than the write strategy typically results in poor quality burn, or burns with errors.

    4x at 4x .... 8x at 8x

All my Maxell, Memorex and Fujifilm 4x DVD+R discs burn at 8x in my BenQ822A , no problem playing in my DVD players, no coaster yet. I don't do any Kprobe scans as I do not have any DVD LiteOn drives. Had not tried any 8x media yet.

I don't think you can say "typically," it depends on the burner and the media. Here are some impressive scans of 4x media burned at 8x with the ND-2500A:

I'm not 100% expert on kprobe, but I'm not impressed by those scans.

These are scans of 8x media burned at 8x, compare to the 4x@8x scans:

Not a whole lot of difference in quality IMO.

    Wonderful, isn't it
1200 PI is extremely bad, right? Did I break the record?
BTW 4x burning results in 400-600 PI

  8. Since Vote is over 80percent for 4x at 8x ...
    Please list :

Burner , Hack , Media , software, that WORKS 99 percent of the time.

If we can get a few people saying for example:
Pioneer A07 , lastest Hack, MMC Verbimem 4x, Nero 6 ...works 99 percent... made 100 burns 1 coaster... plays in all my DVD players....example only

This way we can see if others can verify this info ... Looking for the Magic Combo!

  10. Do I have to scan the entire disk, or can I just stop scanning midway?

Its better to scan all the way thru in case something different shows up at a 4x speed scan.

  12. Even if I had an 8x burner, which I don't, I'd wouldn't take the risk (I don't burn 2x media at 4x!). I care alot more about getting successful burns than how long it takes. Burning twice rated speed just to save 6-7 minutes wouldn't do it for me. Just an add in of 2¢.

To johns0: Great scan with your liteon burner! I'll try burning a MAXELL 4x DVD-R@ 8x with a new Pioneer 107d burner I got a few days ago. The drive has the hacked 1.16 firmware by NIL. I'll see what I can come up with!

Pioneer 107D - latest firmware - 4X Princo printables @ 8X with Nero or DVDDecrypter.

Burning ISO images of movies with either works no worries. Burning using the DVD-Video template in Nero Xpress is no good. XBOX games no good using any method.
    If in doubt, Google it.

With Xbox do you know about checking a certain box on Nero 6 ... udfiso burn... then when at final stage after you check ready to burn ... you see the tabs screen ...4th one says "UDF" ... click on it ... and where is says FORCE DVD-compatiablity with XBOX ... check that box ... and you shouldn't have any problems with GAMES or Movies! Works 100 percent for me. I'm not sure if you were aware of that or not ...since you didn't state if other disks worked with xbox. If you were aware of it ... Forget this MESSAGE!

    yep, knew about it.

I think it's the media I'm using - it just isn't very reliable to burn @ 8X. I use Craxtion to create and patch the ISOs for me and I find that easier so I'm happy to continue burning them at 4X if it means I get a successful burn.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Here's a kprobe scan of a MAXELL 4x speed DVD-R burned at 8x speed with a Pioneer 107D with hacked firmware 1.16. Disc reads fine in my dvd players.

What matter most is if it plays normal in your DVD Player. At one stage, I thought PI above 500 was bad. But when I burnt them, they played fine in my DVD players. I don't really care much about scans any more.

The above link is out of topic but maybe interest to some of you for 16x burning with 8x media from BenQ official support website. Seemed great results though I don't really care about the scans.

You say that now, but wait until your original DVD/data gets damaged or lost, and you want to make a copy of your copy. Then see if playing normal in your DVD Player is "what matter most".
