I just got back from a local Riteaid. They had a deal, 10 pack of Maxell DVD-R's for $15 and also there is a $5 rebate on the discs. Well, the 10 packs of DVD-R's were gone, but they had the DVD+R 10 pack. I grabbed the last 2 five packs of Maxell DVD-R they had out, went up and asked if I could get the 2 packs for the $15 and the rebate. The woman asked the manager, sure enough she said yes. I now have 10 of these beautiful discs. Just as described to me by various people, Yellow topped, Maxell logo on it, and the dye is...well, prior to this I've only burnt TDK 2X and Ritek G04's for DVD-R's, the difference is night and day. I checked all 10, not one imperfection. Just finished burning my first, it verified. I then ran it in Nero CD Speed and I got flawless read results back. Anyone with a Riteaid near you, they are doing this sale this week only I believe. Even if I never see the $5 rebate, at $1.50 a disc in jewel cases this is great.

I love the Maxell MXLRG02's. I also live a block away from a Rite-Aid. However, I would rather get the deal from J&R, no rebates at $1 a disc.

Regular price is $1 a disc at J and R? Wow..well I'm now in central NJ, nowhere near one of those unfortunately. Every other place to buy discs is a bit far, except for Best Buy but its always a crapshoot there for me. Does J and R do mailorder or weborder? If so I may pick up some more Maxell's off them as soon as I finish this half a spindle of G04's

Hey, I'd shop in Paramus to beat the NY sales tax.

    Anyway, J&R does ship.

    http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3977370

50 spindle pack of yellow top Maxell DVD-R=$50+$5 shipping
    And no sales tax!
Proabably would get to your house in record time.

Unfortunately I'm out of Paramus now, I'm near Sandy Hook now. I'm gunna have to get those Maxell's once I use these 10 and the last of my Ritek's.

    Thanks Smurf

Burnt my 2nd Maxell, flawless read results again and it even plays perfectly in my ancient Samsung M-101 player which up till today only had mild success with G04's, and pretty good results with RicohJPN discs. Now I'm done burning these till I finish the Ritek's, these are just too damn good..

Oh, and I noticed something while burning. My drive is an NEC ND-1300A and before when I'd burn the TDK or Ritek's, my buffers would go crazy from time to time, and would drop 3-10% every few seconds while burning normally. On these Maxell's, both buffers stayed at 100% until it finished. Nothing has changed on my PC since I burnt a Ritek, I always keep my hard drive defragged and spyware free. Is this just what happens when you use real high quality media?

Sounds like these magical Maxells also enabled DMA for you. This is of course impossible. I don't know how that happened?

haha well DMA has always been enabled. Every device on the IDE channels is running in DMA mode, has been since I got this PC.

Also though, my rip speeds tend to not go over 4, for a while I was hitting 8-10 with AnyDVD running. My drives burning stabilized but my rip speeds suck now, looks like it might be the time to pick up a Lite-On CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive soon. This is leaning towards drive problems though and its minor so yeah..I am enjoying these wonderful Maxell's though. I tested one out in a friends picky XBox, it played back. Looks like I finally found the right discs after a year of screwing around. I'm still interested in checking out Taiyo Yuden's though. Most people seem to group these Maxell discs and Taiyo Yuden at the top of the recordable media pile, so I'd just like to check those out for myself as I know they make incredible CD-R's. Where can I get a decent price on TY DVD-R's?

RIMA.COM always seems to be the lowest for Taiyo Yuden DVD-R media.

Right now the plain top 4x DVD-R discs are $90.00 per 100 pack or $50.00 per 50 pack.

Don't forget though that there will be a shipping charge!

As for the MAXELL 4x DVD-R discs the cheapest price I can find (that is a normal non-sale price) is at J&R which currently is $49.88 per 50 pack + shipping.
