Slide Show Movie Maker is FREE, and does a terrific job. Download, then click on their "How To" link for detailed instructions (be sure to activate your popupstopper first).

I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to make my mixed DVD's.

dvd-lab will do it easily enough, but I prefere to make my slideshows in my video editor and output to dvd-spec Mpeg-2. A good video editor gives much more control and options for a slideshow. I like to encode @ 24p, the quality is absolutely perfect. Then I use dvd-lab to author the videos and slideshow.

I use Premiere, but any video editor will work. Here is a Guide I wrote for making slideshows in Premiere 6.5:

    nachomur,

I have tried a few video editors like Pinnacle, MovieFactory, Premiere, Vegas and ScreenBlast. I found out that ScreenBlast is the easiest for me among those (I'm just an average user). ScreenBlast has the option for slideshow and lots of transitions. It can also do the fading for both video and audio and the price is around $80-$90. When done, you can export the video to the raw .AVI or MPEG2 via Mainconcept engine. I always export it as .AVI (DV) and encode it using TMPGEN. The quality is superb if your video is under 2 hours. I always keep mine around 1 1/2 hours...and of course I have GL2...proud GL2 owner...

    vcdlover,

I've never used ScreenBlast, so I can't coment on it. If it works for you, then great, by all means use it. I think you'd get much better results encoding straight to Mpeg via Main Concept then to AVI > Tempenc. If you must use Tempenc, then you should Frameserve the Timeline to Tempenc. The quality will allways be better that way.

You've got a GL2? Great camera, that's the one I wanted, but I cheaped out and got a Panasonic pv dv953. It's a nice 3-CCD camera, but $1000 cheaper. Here's a tip: Your camera shoots in Frame Mode like mine. Try shooting some footage in Frame Mode. After you edit it, output directly to Mpeg via Main Concept encoder. Set the encoder for "Progressive" or "No Fields". I think you'll like the outcome.

I encode all my video @ 30p and all my Slideshows @ 24p. The image quality is much better that way, especially when you hit the pause button.

    Hi racer-x,
How do you frameserve to TMPGENC? I own TMPGENC, Mainconcept and CCE (light version) and I can't tell any different from these three encoders.

YES...my baby GL2. My brothers have a band and I'm a camera man. I tape every show that they perform using my GL2 and distribute the video to friends and their fans to get some cash back to support the band. To be honest, I never shoot the video at Frame made. I guess I have to try your tips...

My choice of app for this is Ulead's MovieFactory3. I got the SE version (basic) with my Pioneer 107.

With it I made a DVD containing,

    - two 100 picture slideshows set to music. An option is to adjust the length of each pic so the total show matches the length of the song. Can even do transitions between pics.
    - 3 video clips.
    - A menu screen with thumbnails for each option. Each thumbnail can be actual moving video and not just a still pic if you choose.
    - My own personal intro/logo that plays before the menu appears.
    - A folder containing all the source pics used in the slideshow , so the person with the disc can have full res copies of pics printed. (optional)
    - A personal folder of whatever I wanted. (optional)
    - A PC based DVD player for viewing on a PC that doesn't have DVD playing software. (optional)

Plus heaps more functionality than I've listed here.

    Definitely worth checking out!
