Playing a DVD on a Philips DVD Player

Hi all. I'm a newbie with an odd problem. I captured an 80 minute VHS tape to MPEG-2 at 352x480 resolution and added 8 chapters. The MPEG file looks perfect on my PC. I burned it to DVD+R because my Philips home DVD player only supports that format. The disc plays fine on my PC through my DVD drive. But on my Philips player, I can see the menu screen but that's it. If I select a chapter, nothing happens.

I thought I might have just burned a bad DVD. So I tried it again. Same result: plays on my PC correctly, but not in the Philips.

So I thought the problem might be with my Philips player. But when I tried recording other DVDs, they all play just fine. I've tried short clips, long clips, and multi-chapter clips. The problem really seems to be just with that one 80 minute video. I even tried re-encoding that video, but same problem. What could be causing this?

I'm using a Pinnacle AV/DV capture card and Nero software. I also tried Pinnacle Studio 9.1--same problem.

Maybe your player doesn't support half-D1. You don't say if the other clips you tried are at D1 or half-D1 resolution. You could also look up the DVD Player here -> https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers to see if others have the same problem

Yes, the other discs that play OK are also at half D1.

I made another disc that does something similar. In this case, there are two clips (chapters) on one DVD. The menu comes up fine, and the first chapter plays fine. But when I select chapter 2, nothing at all happens. But again, everything works fine in my PC.

My Philips DVD player was built in 2000. Have there been any technical advances since then that might explain why this player can play some DVD+R's, or some chapters on certain DVD+R's, but not others?
