    do you need a capture card to download camcorder video if it has a USB conection?

    Keep in mind that most of the USB connectors on the various camcorders are for:

    1. image xfer from memory sticks / cards on camera
    2. Web cam type streaming of live video (so you can use your camcorder as a web cam. (normally very low res)

    Very seldom do I see it for xfering DV video (like you see in Firewire - 1394 connectors.

    Check the specifics on your camera.
