Finally got round to downloading the memory card of my last hols and I want to post a pic in the what do you look like thread. I have 2 problems.
(a) Where is that bastard thread
(b) The photo was taken on my 5 mp camera so the pic is way big (around a mb) how do I condense it down. I have adobe photoshop (the free one) and the trusty mspaint.
Cheers lads

I use a program called ACDSEE.
http://www.acdsystems.com/English/index.htm But it will do a lot more."Whenever I need to "get away,'' I just get away in my mind. I go to my imaginary spot, where the beach is perfect and the water is perfect and the weather is perfect. The only bad thing there are the flies. They're terrible!" Jack Handey -
I use PSP, I imagine it has a lot of the same features as photoshop. On PSP there is an image menu and you can select resize, you can either resize it as a percentage of the original or enter pixel values. When you save as jpg there is also an option to select the compression setting. Both of these variables will affect the filesize of the image.

I use my old faithful Microsoft Image Composer. Grab a corner of the photo and drag it smaller.....just keep the proportions right.
-
I use Microsoft Picture It! Photo. It came free with my system and the more I use it the more stuff I find out about it. It's actually quite a good photo editing program.

in Photoshop, if you go under Image -> Image Size, you can specify a new size for your image.

In ms paint, simply hit CTRL-A to select the entire image.
Then click on IMAGE then STRETCH & SKEW.
Choose a % to add to both the hoirizontal and vertical
stretch boxes. 50% = half size.
Then choose save as to save as a JPEG file as this
will compress the byte size of the image. -
For quick-and-dirty (ultra-simple) resizing, I like Microsoft Image Resizer I think the default quality level is 75% or so (you cannot change it), so the quality is not perfect, but to be able to highlight X # of images, right-click and choose Resize, pick your size, and sit back and wait... Way easier than manually resizing Imo.Originally Posted by Hardcoreruss

Right used the mspaint option, looks a bit pixelly but it will do.
Now to post it -
yeah, mspaint seems to do nearest neigbour rather than bicubuc resize - photoshop is much better

Good utility....I've used this a few times... the default size thing was problematic but good for someone wanting quick conversions.Originally Posted by HillJack

If anyone is interested if your looking for a full fledged photo editing program but don't wish to spend the $$$ for Photoshop try Ulead Photoimpact, it's about $80 bucks.
