  1. Ok have I been sleeping or what, I didn't know 12x was hitting the market, or has it been here awhile?

    Lite-On 12X DVD±RW Drive
    Write Speed: 12X DVD+R, 4X DVD+RW, 8X DVD-R, 4X DVD-RW, 48X CD-R, 24X CD-RW
    Read Speed: 48X CD-ROM, 12X DVD-ROM
$90 and I don't see any mention of DL support either.

I don't plan to buy one right now, got other things I need more than new burners, mine is fine for awhile yet at 8x, heck I still only burn 4x anyway.

At 12x what is a realistic time to expect for a full SL disk then?
I recall lots of talk about 8X being mutlie speed and not burning a true 8X from start to finish. So what is 12x? Maybe just the last few 100 mb?

well 12x would be ~5 mins, plus lead in and lead out it's going to be near 7 mins. with 8x near 9 mins, it doesn't seem worth getting excited about.

  3. Kinda what I thought,
Heck I never got all that exited over 8X yet at 9 minutes. I still burn 4X with an 8X drive

Though I did get a bit excited going from 1X-2x-4x, but after 4x it lost it's excitement and appeal. 1hr down to 15 minutes was great though.

Geuss I will hang out at 4x and 8X untill they get more like 32x, then a 2 minute disk might be worth jumping on

From what I have read 16X is the limit for DVD burners, for the Plex 712A it takes a little of 6 min to burn.

i'm still burning and ripping at 2x, but there you go!

32X DVD would be 44 megabytes a second, that's pretty damn quick. even 16x at 22 megabytes a second is fast, equivalent of writing an 80 minute CDR in 36 seconds!

  6. yea, my 32X was meant as a joke. I am even suprised there is supposed to be the 12x and 16x?

That's good though, when the start pumping out 12x 16x disks maybe that will drop 4x to a dime a piece or $8/100

Think how fast DVD R prices have propped compared to the drop in CD prices. Heck I can get some 4x now almost as cheap as CDs!
