  1. This was buried in another thread so I thought I'd give a "heads up". As the Subject says, these are on sale at BEST BUY for $14.99 for a 25 pack unit.

These check with DVD Identifier as being the same Media Code as the 50-packs that were and are on sale for $39.99 for a 50 pack:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:MCC 01RG20 ]
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Disc Type : [DVD-R]
    Manufacturer ID : [MCC 01RG20 ]
Manufacturer Name : [Mitsubishi Chemical Corp.]
Disc Application Code : [Unrestricted Use : Consumer Purpose]
    Recording Speeds : [1x , 2x , 4x] (8x Cannot Be Detected)
    Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3MB = 4.38GB (4.71GB)]
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

But at a better price point.

I took back 3 50-packs with the shiny tops and bought 8 25-packs getting essentially 50 more blanks at no cost.

    It's a pretty good deal.

  2. what is your experiance with these discs ?
I was buying the Ritek, but may need to switch over to something else.
This seems like a good price if they are a good quality disc.

  3. MCC is 1st class media, acording to http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm and so far it hasn't given me a single coaster. hurry up and get some before supplies are out.

My experience so far has been great. As someone else mentioned, Verbatim DVD-R (MCC) are 1st class media, and they are IMHO superior to Ritek.

The only media I would prefer over these are Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R/+R, Verbatim DataLifePLUS 8X DVD+R/-R,, Pioneer 4X DVD-R, Taiyo Yuden 4X DVD-R or Maxell 4X DVD-R, in that order.

There was only one spindle left at the Best Buy AFTER I raided this AM.

  7. Thanks for the Heads UP!

I'm still not Crazy about the lack of room to write on the tops of these disks... I'm used to clear top DVD's so I can fit 6 program Names or home movie Names's on it ... I would be lucky to fit one or 2 words...any one else have a PROBLEM with this? Any solution?

I picked up 4 25 packs! The sign in from of them was 44.99 and I didn't see any sales sign ... so... there were plenty there.

Wasn't sure if I should go back tomorrow morning and Pick up more ... ?

I'm not too crazy about it either. OTOH, I'm not crazy about shiny silver tops either (although it is a bit better). I prefer white printable tops best of all, with matte silver tops being a distant second, but for the price (~$0.65/each) I can live with it.

Solutions? Just the obvious: Write small, put the name on a slimline jewel case, use a numbering system, etc.

  10. I have a problem
i got these disks last monday.. and i burnt 3 and none play at all. No burn errors either. I never had a problem with MCC +R in like 15 disks. but these DVD-R 3 disks burnt 3 coasters... 1st disk in the pack had some dye inperfections.. fine I can live with 2 bad disks in a spindle due to packaging. the second one though was flawless upon inspection. the 3rd one was also flawless. these disks (2 & 3 ) marginally play in my burner. they don't even play in my DVD-ROM.

    any ideas??

Am I the only one with problems?

For those of you complaining about writing room, do what I did. Instead of those fat Sharpies, go to Office Depot (or wherever) and buy the EXTRA FINE or ULTRA FINE markers by Sharpie. They write like pens, but are felt markers. I buy them a box at a time, lasts about 6 months or so.

  12. After I burned one of these disks ... I realized I could write on all 6 spokes. There are 2 small white areas ...and I thought I was limited to that space ... so all is well... I can write a Name on each spoke!

    LOL!
When I picked up some more today the sign stills READS 44.99 on these Disks ... so ... yeah ... it's a GOOD DEAL ... and even better now that I can write on the Spokes!
Good Hunting ... if you click on that link and if it says sold out ... click on the Store Icon underneath it and it will direct you to store that has it in stock! I did that this morning and was directed to 3 stores ...that I phone checked and they had them in stock.
    Hope that helps.
P.S. I know Nero 6 has a Verification method to check the burn was successful but it takes forever for it to check a DVD ... do you guys know a program that can verify the Data on the Disk that is Super FAST?
    Thanks in advance.

  15. I ordered 4 packs of these last monday before Best buy marked them sold out. I spoke to one of their customer service agents today and they told me it's back ordered and could take 3-4 weeks for them to get it. Do you think if I ask them to give me +R of this samebrand will they agree as they are out of stock? or do you think I should go to one of their stores for this?

If it's a movie on that disk then just use powerdvd or windvd and fast forward at the fastest speed through the entire movie and any extras, trailers, etc. If it stutters or freezes then it's a bad disk. I use this method when burning a lot of copies, it's faster than nero verification or surface scan and it catches bad copies when nero says it's good.

Yeah, u can use windvd or power dvd, but you sometimes get some false positives... or is it false negatives.... , in any event, u know what I mean.

As far as swapping a -R for a +R I would think not since the +R are at like $35ish.... give or take, I forget exactly, but they arent $14.99 like the -R ones.

  19. Gee I'm not sure what you guys can do now... but as I wrote above... if you click store Icon on the LINK in first POST ...and enter your zip code ... it DIRECTS you to 3 STORES that HAVE it in stock! I had done that a day or 2 after I saw the SOLD OUT ONLINE icon. Did anyone else have LUCK with that. I sure DID. I got all I wanted! I'm not sure with the Price Increase online if you can still get them at 14.99 in store, but it might be worth a try. I PHONE verified they had them in stock before I made the TRIP (gas prices being what they are).

works on all players i tryed so far. I was on my way back to NY and pasted best buy in VA and stoped in the store, the ad said $19.99 which is 50% off reg. price but in the store they were $14.99 a great price for first rate media. they had over 100 on display. Picked up 10 at a great price at $14.99. I was waiting for there sale to show up again, i hit just right.

Bought just 1 pack on Monday because I was worried since I never tried these(MCC) and usually only burn Ty or Maxell.
So far Ive burned about 5, they look(dye) and play perfect. Seem to be 1st class media. Went back today and there all gone and the price now shows 19.99 ( I paid 14.99). The +r's were 34.99 for 25 moviereels.
Wish I bought more, .60 per disc for top quality is a great price. And the movie reel is not to bad either!
    8)
Dont fret more sales on 4x are in our future as faster media is released and DL starts hitiing the stores. The price wars will begin.

I doubt that's a Nero "problem", more like it verifies straight after the burn hence it's reading the disc back in a writer. These are pretty much safe bets, I never verify in the writer because they're more finely tuned to recordable media than a standalone device or even a DVD-ROM drive. You are much more likely to have read errors in a device other than the recorder, and going through a (video) disc at high speed on a standalone is a pretty good way of proving a point.

The downside to that is it's not reading all the data, just snippets, and is not a particularly good way of proving the platform's stability. If you have to test this way, I suggest simply skipping chapters using the "next chapter" button on the player / remote and making sure the transitions are clean, and pay particular attention to the last chapter, letting that play out. Don't forget also that the DVD player employs error correction, and just because you didn't see a problem doesn't mean the player didn't. The error correction on a DVD is pretty resilient and quite often you can get away with murder before the player craps out.

Yes, on the ad it show$19.99 but you can ask for the rain check and they also give you the rain check to buy it later with $14.99 per a spindle, I ask twice, for me and my frind each of us will get 4 spindles( $14.99 each yesterday), these disks are good and cheap. YOu just get a rain check and decide to buy it later or not .
Hurry they change the price tomorrow.

I went to BEST BUY on July 10, 2004 and got the last 25 pack of these DVD-R discs.

Sure enough the shelf said $19.99 eventhough the website said $14.99 when I checked it on ... if I recall ... July 9, 2004

It rang up $19.99 and when I mentioned that it was $14.99 on the BEST BUY website they said that such pricing differences happen and that they would not honour the lower price.

I said **** it and left it in their hands.

Now I understand that even at $19.99 it was a great buy but I am highly annoyed by ANY big retail chain that has lower on-line prices that they will not honour in the retail store.

That happened with me a few years ago several times at CompUSA.

    It's total bullshit!

    - John "FulciLives" Coleman

    P.S.
Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD-R discs are now $1.00 each at RIMA.COM when you purchase them in 100 packs.

Maxell 4x DVD-R media can be bought in 50 packs for $49.99 at J&R

    *** EDIT ***
Just now I checked the BEST BUY website and the price is no longer $14.99 but now it is $19.99
