I have inherited this camcorder in great shape. My last one, an ancient JVC S-VHS had a date function that, when engaged, would imprint the date on the first 5 seconds of any new recording session. Nice.

I cannot find anything on this Sony that accesses a date imprint function. However, when it turns on it does indicate the date on the display.

Does an experienced user have any suggestions?

    Thanks, Larry

With DV camcorders, the date is encoded on the tape all the time, you just have to turn on the display to show it. You can do this through the menu. There might be a way to do this also with the DISPLAY button, but I am not sure, my manual is at home.

Right, there is a date code that allows you to display it on the TV along with other attributes. I was hoping for an actual imprint in the video image so that it would always be seen.

    Thanks for the reply!! Lar

  4. As far as I know, and I've sent a message to Sony customer support, there isn't anyway to display / capture the date except displaying it as an overlay when playing back with the camera itself. Seems to be a 1980's technology that is no longer available with Sony camcorders.

Here is the link to the Sony support:

Thanks a lot for checking this out. Bummer, though.

    Best regards, Larry
