    Hi Guys.
    Just noticed on one of my burned Maxells a blotch, the size of a small finger nail, darker in colour. Almost like a bird dropping, a Gorbachev forehead stain, don't know how else to discribe it. Appears to be on the dye layer. Playback seems ok, but I was worried. Anyone had this before, or knows if it will develop into something nasty ?

    could be that it was there from even before you burned,,, try using dvdinfo to test the disc for read errors... it could be that your player can overlook some errors or maybe there are no errors... just a bird shitted on your disc... 8)

    Dust or finger print can cause this kind of discoloration. Be careful not to touch recording side of unburned media....also use some compressed air to blow off any dust before you burn.

    I always inspect media closely before and after....if I'm not too drunk.
