the actual bitrate (vs. the reported bitrate) is around 6000
work it is out on a dvd-5 (1.5 hour movie plus credits + extras) as an example
just depends on length ...
if they used 9.8 , there would be less than 1 hour on a disk .."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -

But aren't we talking about a DVD-9. and not a DVD-5?

But arent most video in stores for sale or rent DVD-9s? If they are over an hour, which most are, then they are DVD-9s in my experience, for sure, and not sometimes.Originally Posted by BJ_M

No, he did say the ones in stores, so your bit rate calculations would be wrong, sorry, no really, I don't want to get into it with you, but 90min. would be a DVD-9, so no matter how you slice your bread, it could easliy be 8000kbps on the bit rate, and most likely is.

you will find that dvd-9's are still in the 6000-7000 range - often ..

Agreed. I know this from backing up many, many of my DVD's. I rarely see bitrates averaging over 8000.Originally Posted by BJ_M

i know I'm right because i don't back up dvd's (that often) - but i produce them commercially and know what bitrate we use ..Originally Posted by BJ_M"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650)
