  1. I'm basically a newbie and I can't get my dvd +r burnings (from an optorite drive) to be read on my Toshiba sd2800.

All the copies I've made using dvd decrypter and clonedvd work on my sony. Any suggestions? I'm going nuts trying to make a burn that would work on both my players. Thanks.

I don't have a solution but I have a Toshiba SD-2800 and all the DVD's I've made (+/-R media and mostly capture from VHS or TV) play fine on it.

I have only done a couple of DVD rips and they played fine as well. I have used Nero and RecordNow Deluxe to burn on a LG-4040b, HP-200i and a Panasonic LD-521.

Again, not a solution but the SD-2800 will read +R media. Hope you get it working

do you mean that dvd copies works but not when you author and burn own videos? or do you mean that dvd-r works and not dvd+r?

  4. Thanks for the reply...anything you've done that works I'd love to know about.

When you say you used Nero and then RecordNow, didn't you have to first use something like Dvd decrypter to rip it to the HD? What version of Nero? Did you do anything other than the defaults?

I don't think it's my media or my Optorite drive - I think sd2800 needs something more than I'm not doing.

  5. Baldrick,
I do what I consider 'normal' ripping and burning to a dvd +r, I get a disk that works perfectly on my Sony but all I get is the message 'error' on the sd2800. I'm backing up movies (nothing I created).

I've tried a couple different types of media and the exact same situation - works on Sony/not on sd2800.

I'm currently using GQ (yeah, cheap from Fry's) +r 4x.
    -E.

  6. PS: No dvd copies have worked. I have only used +r from different companies but still the same error message.

  7. Answer: It does not read +r (even if somebody out there has been able to backup their movies with +r I'd like to see how they did this) - BUT it does read PERFECTLY -r! Thanks for telling us the truth about compatibility. It's been a long time but I remember I asked the salesman about this and he said everything works, + and -.

I used every software combination I could think of posted on this great site - not one of my 10 dvd +r disks would work in the Toshiba sd2800, but worked perfectly in my newer Sony.

So I found one site that mentioned -r does work. And it does. The same process I've been using works with -r.

I'm disgusted that I spent this much time and money trying to figure out why they CLAIM +r works and it doesn't. Toshiba has lost my future business over this.

My Toshibsa SD-2800 is great. No trouble on DVD+R. But it will puke up on misauthored discs. I bet your discs are not authored correctly. It also will not read ISO-only writing, as that is not DVD spec (UDF or UDF/ISO).

The discs you're using may have a low reflectivity rating. That could cause some of this too.
