Hi,
I just got the new JVC and I have a couple questions. I read the big thread about this machine (thats why I ordered it) but I didn't see these questions answered.
1. I dont totally understand finalizing. If I get done recording on a DVD-R disk and I dont finalize, can I take it out of the machine and contine to record to it at a later time? Will the machine recognize where the blank disk space is or do you have to finalize before you can eject the disk?
2. I see that there is only chapters every 5 minutes. I was wondering if I could get around this anyway (short of ripping and re-editing it in a computer). This was mentioned in the big thread but nobody seemed to know how to do it, so there probably isn't a way.
3. Is it possible to have different "shows" on a disk or is everything on the disk one big show with 5 minute chapter stops. In other words, if I record a couple sitcoms is there a way to make them seperate shows on the disk so that if I later rip it to a computer I can rip one show at a time? Or do I have to rip the whole disk to the computer and break the shows apart then? The manual talks about the Library Database, but isn't very clear (IMO). One thing it mentions is "register new index" but doesn't really say what that is.
Thanks for the help!

1. You can take the disc out of the unit and put it back in. You just have to finalize before using it on other units. You can keep recording as long as blank space is left on the disc.
2. Chapter points are put in only after you finalize (though I think you can put in marker points before finalizing.) When you finalize all marker points you might have had are erased and chapter points about every 5 minutes are put in. You can't change this. Edit on a computer if you want to change the menus or chapter points.
3. Each show you record is a separate title as long as you stop the recording between putting different things on the disc. You will also have a DVD title menu on your finalized disc that you can use to select different shows. You can give these names and it will have a date.
I haven't used much of the library database either. Better off just editing and stuff on the computer.
Have Fun!
